Dreaming of Plus-sized Tights
Reviewed by Trina:

Before a couple of years ago I had all but given up on wearing tights. Even queen size hose were pretty iffy, unless I was looking for something that barely fit my thighs, bagged out at my ankles and feet, but could be pulled up to my armpits. I am near the smaller end of the plus size spectrum, about a size 16-18, but still there just aren’t a lot of options out there. Then Niq asked me to try the Foot Traffic Combed Cotton tights. I was skeptical, but I obliged. They fit, actually fit, curves, thighs, tush and all, and did not end up being an almost body suit! I was soooooo excited.
Then came word that we were going to be able to order a plus size version.
OVER THE MOON! Because even though the regular size is amazing, I was almost maxing out the stretch, the waist band rolled a bit, and the thighs did tend to wear out faster than I hoped.
I am 5’6.5”, 225lbs, 31-32 inch inseam,
hips 49in, 29in thigh, 19in calf, size 8.5 shoe.

So now we have them, and they fit me pretty dang good. They have more room in the waist than the regular size helping the waistband lay nice and flat.

Foot Traffic seems to have reinforced the weave from waist to about mid thigh and I’m thinking that will make them last longer. They are still nice and soft and stretchy. They fit my size and shape quite well. I would guess that a size or two above me would do well with them too depending on your shape and leg length.

The leggings fit me a bit differently than the tights. The leggings seem to me a bit smaller, not a ton, but a bit. The plus size legging also has the reinforced thigh and panty area as the tights but here it seems to effect the sideways stretch some and cause a slight dent in my thigh. But the waist band is great on these as well.

Charcoal is one of my favorite colors and am already planning out some nice fall skirt, sock, and legging/tights combos. I can’t wait for even more colors!

Trina has been with us for nearly two years now. She works in customer service and actively updates our plus sized listings based on feedback as well as her own experiences with our items (currently we have plus sized as one of the drop-down search menu items, in the new site it is a full, linkable/searchable section). Because of her fabulous curves she is in many of our plus sized images and will be in many more in the future.
Brenna took the other plus sized tights & leggings images of her partner Chase, proving that guys can wear them too!
They also fit down to my size (I’m 5’2″ and about 160), so if you’re closer to a size 12 or so and prefer a bit more room than the regular Foot Traffic cotton tights provide, then these will be great for you as well!
Thanks for the super review! I really think I need some of these for winter.
On a side note, you are pretty much my measurement twin! It was kinda freaky… but good to know for future sock dreams purchases! ^_^
Thanks for the wonderful review, Trina! I’m so glad to see these, as the normal ones don’t work for me (I’m only a 16, but I have a 36″ inseam).

This review rocks. I love the photos, too.
Regarding plus-sized things in general, Are the plus size sock garters going on sale sometime soon..? I myself am not plus size, But i would love them as an alternative for garter belts..~! And i have trouble affording the current price. :3
thanks Rin. If you ever need any suggestions, i have a whole list of stuff that fits me.

Hi Sheila! always glad to help. How’s the sock dresser coming???
Laurel, you’re making me blush.
The sock dresser is getting full! It may need a little brother……..
Rin, she does has lots of good suggestions. As a matter of fact, Trina is the one responsible for my sock drawer morphing into a whole dresser!

ok….i got the plus size black leggings…i thought i might jot down my notes on it in case anyone prefers to wear their items as i do….i have a 28 inch waist….i much prefer to wear my bottoms on my hips/high hip area – 37 inch. i feel i have a very short torso and just look weird with things up high on my waist. also, i cannot stand a tight waist. i have gotten the Foot Traffic large stirrups…on me the waist seems tight…and makes a dent in my fat/plush areas….i think due to that i wear things lower….it is actually the very top of my backside/thigh area so it dents i think moreso than if i wore things on my actual waist. but these – the plus size – are perfect….i almost dont feel them on my hip area….to me they are a very snug fit but again this is all in how someone prefers their fit…they are not at all uncomfortable just grasp my leg completely all the way down and i like that they are more opaque because they dont need to stretch as much to cover all my body mass. and these came down just a bit lower on my leg than on Trina which i am happy about.
and that is about it….i would purchase more colors yes!
I’ve searched the entire internet for light pink otk socks that will fit a 23 inch thigh. I loved your super Ms and the super loose socks, but they aren’t the right color. Any suggestions?

I wish we had a way of reviewing products on the web site — but I couldn’t find a way so I thought I would write my experience w/ these here. I am 5’8″ and weigh 152lbs — I am most comfortable in a 33″ inseam with pants, so I bought these Foot Traffic tights in the plus size hoping they would give me extra stretch to accomodate my height and ‘average’ build, since the last pair of tights I had in standard size seemed to be pushing it. I was actually disappointed — The leg length seems short to me. I had to really pull on them to stretch them to get the crotch seam all the way up, and when I bend my legs a large gap forms between the back of my knee and the fabric because they aren’t long enough which prevents them from hugging up against my curves. It just feels like they are really stretched to their limit and still don’t accommodate my height. I wish I would have tried them out before the 7 day return window — I felt like it was worth it to spend a couple of dollars more and go with the EG Smith ones instead. I actually had a pair of those in the standard size and they fit (and felt) much better.
my God, i thought you were going to chip in with some decisive insight at the end there, not leave it with ?we leave it to you to decide?.
I’m with Anna (above) on this one. I’m 5’10″ & 150lb and usually buy the plus-size tights when I’m at the store. They’re better than nothing, but they only “fit” – they don’t *fit*.
When you’re talking $20+, it’s quite a risk to spend money on a pair of tights that aren’t really intended for tall women. So, hopefully Foot Traffic will add a tall-plus-size version in addition to their plus-size version.

I’m a little surprised at the comments from taller women here. I’m 5’10″ and 145-ish pounds (can’t remember the last time I weighed myself) and the regular size fits me fine.

I just ordered these a few weeks ago….and I’m wearing them today, and I LOVE THEM TO BITS.
I am a plus sized girl, with 34 inch thighs, 17 inch calves, 58 inch hips, and a 46 inch waist, and they fit AMAZINGLY
There’s a *little* difficulty with the bands at the tops, but after they stretch out throughout the day, they get comfortable.
I LOVE THESE. Yay for knee high socks and skirts in winter! THEY are SO warm!

I’m 5’5″ and about 240lbs. I have a pair of the regular (purchased before plus size was available). I LOVE them! They are soft and warm and are the only thing I own that says “One Size” and actually fits me. However, they do have that slight dent in the upper thigh that catches strangely. I was hoping the plus size wouldn’t do that to me, but from your review looks like it still does. Still worth it!
