Barcodes & Logins
From barcodes to log-ins, we are making some last-minute updates before the holidays really kick in. And, just because we know how badly some of you want them, wishlists are NEXT!
More about logging in shortly, but first…
So, what are these barcodes and why did we add them? truth be told, I dislike barcodes so much that when we were a tiny little home-made business (and could carry a day’s worth of orders to the post office in a cloth bag) I used to put a sticker with our old logo over any product that had one. And for years all our shipping was done by one determined man who got a little help from various employees on the busier days. Here is an actual old orders weight sheet I’ve kept pinned by my desk for years…
…this would have been a busy day for us seeing as it fills the card.
Over the years those lists got much bigger and everything had to be done by hand til one of our super-sharp dreamers teamed up with one of our many talented artists to create a combination logo-barcode that has been appearing on top of our invoices since the end of summer…
Now the job of packing and shipping our orders accurately is infinitely easier allowing our shipping team time to do some side projects, like creating our youtube & Tumblr pages along with other top-secret ventures we are working on.
Okay, so back to those log ins, create your user name, choose your password and security question and voila! any order you have placed using that email address will load in your order history complete with product links to all items we still carry (because this was a very important feature for me, I want to know what I bought and what page it’s on). You just need to add your billing & shipping info this once… Go ahead, try it!
And, rest assured… this is only the beginning and wishlists are the very next thing we’ll be adding!

The logins rock! I can’t say how many times I’ve hesitated getting more because I can’t remember the exact name of the color I got last time. Now I can go back and see what I got and KNOW what I want more of. Thank you sooooo much!

I forgot to mention, because I was trying not to be so wordy… we scan that striped sock and the computer does the rest, it even knows if the order weight matches what the total contents should weigh and out comes a shipping label! no more lists, no more copying and pasting your shipping info into shipworks… it is a beautiful thing!

Oh, wow, I absolutely love that logo-barcode idea! That is very Sock Dreamy in its aesthetical aspirations and unique spirit.
And the login feature is super lovely! Hooray! Oh dear, I did spend quite a lot over the last two years, didn’t I?

I notice that the login function shows up at the top of the Explorer version of your homepage, but not the Firefox version. That’s o.k., though. I got myself registered!

We have been playing with the cache lately. The new version brings cache back down to 6 hrs. What this means is that some of you might have to hit refresh to see the updates right away. At the most if you don’t do anything you’re browser will pick up on the updates in a week. Next update won’t have that issue.

Just joined and it didn’t find any of my sock orders.
Looking forward to using that feature in the future though! And the sock barcode is maybe the coolest idea I’ve ever heard.

YAY WISHLISTS!! my mom wants to buy me socks, and she’s just computer-saavy enough to know she needs a wishlist to accomplish this. this will make her (and me) so happy!

Neat! I’m looking forward to wishlists, to saving me having tons of tabs of socks open all the time.
Unfortunately the order history is not working for me. I signed up with a different email than I usually use here, but then edited my account to the one that should be linked to past orders. Did I have to sign up with that one in the first place for the order search to work?

yes, I think that is how it currently works, but we will have it so you can add multiple emails to your history, but you will need to be able to verify all the emails for them to appear in your list (if you have any old emails that are no longer in use or accessible to you they will not work).

PS we think we have resolved the log in issues a few people were having, if you’re one of the few left please email us with browser and OS info so we can help you through it.
