Mary is our Wholesale Accounts Specialist and she leads the Visual Merchandising & Interior Design, like in the shop and making our HQ a pretty place to be! Her skills are numerous and various and the socks she’s modelled ranges just as wide!
When I asked Mary to wear in her favourite pairs so I could get a snap, she brought me four, with coordinating shoes.
Mary’s fun selection, which includes the fabulous Lightweight Running No Show Toe Socks
Her personal faves are shorter, sportier socks and midcalf-to-knee high styles slouched down. Both the ECO Ginkgo Leaves Crew and the Diamond Rib Knee Highs fit the bill. Soft and oh so delightful when slouched, they’re great (particularly the Diamond Ribs) for dealing with the cold mornings and hot afternoons of June.
Born in Germany, she’s a go-to for quick translations (which is useful for getting all the info we can off of Cronert’s German-designed, Italian made styles).
A dedicated bike rider and marathon runner, Mary has quite the set of gams, which makes her fun to shoot in styles that emphasize shape.
Mary also is blessed (like me) with toes just at the end of most “one size” foot ranges (that US women’s shoe size 6-10 range). So, not only is she who we turn to when proving the veracity of a sizing label, but she also gets to wear the larger footed styles.
With feet that have as many talents as the rest of her, Mary is a blessed addition to our Dreamer family! And to all of you other June bug babies, happy birthday and happy start of summer!
The only Dreamer who has a birthday this month is not officially an employee, but she does come to HQ every workday. Isabel is the daughter of our VP of Purchasing and even with only two years of wearing clothes under her belt, Izzy’s already got definite opinions on her style.
The Wee Isabelle Baby & Kids OTK from Sweet Marcel are, appropriately, one of her favourites. Fishies and colours both springy and girly, perfect for whatever mood she’s feeling.
An obliging model for our baby and kids socks from the start, Izzy’s rocked socks for us since she needed a little help sitting up.
Isabel is always a delight to work with (she might be our most darling Dreamer, though I try not to be biased), and it’s been even more fun as she’s gotten older. She’s a bolt of lightning now, but she still finds a little time to show off her socks.
Last summer we had another of our little feet models join Izzy for a (naptime-shortened) afternoon of trying on different socks. It was around then that she started showing some more active interest in how all the pictures were turning out.
I think, of all of us Dreamers who have scored some awesome socks as models, Izzy has won because she has two pairs of the fleece slipper socks. It’s the luck you get when you’ve got the littlest feet! (For big feet in search of snuggliness, you might want to check out our new knee high option!)
Happy birthday to Izzy and all you other May babies, I hope your springs are verdant and full of those flowers April always says it’s raining for!!
Spring is here! And, appropriately, Dreamers with April birthdays regularly rock the shorter socks. It’s weird to use third person here, since I’m one of the April birthdays, but what are you gonna do.
Sixten is part of our shipping crew and tends to deal with most of our international shipping quandaries and queries. His response when I asked him what his favourite socks were revealed a pretty key piece of his personality, because he motioned at the shoes he was wearing and said, that the Squiggle Dots Midcalf went really well with them. Catching a Sixten in the wild is difficult, so you’ll have to be satisfied with this product shot, showing the shoes and socks in question.
I think, more than any of us, Sixten loves pairing socks with shoes. I mean, check the cut-out style he wore with the Argyle Compression Knee Highs, or the beetle-iridescent pair he matched with the 666 Knee Highs.
He’s a stylish guy, which is why we find his toes in the coolest midcalves more often than not.
Actually, both our feet end up in a lot of the same styles, like Racing Stripes Midcalf (he’s in Navy, I’m in Black).
And, more recently, the Palm Crew (I’m in the sunset-y Navy and he’s in the twilight-y Black).
I’m behind the camera more often than not, but my legs’ particular refusal to keep socks up and my penchant for obnoxious colours means I do end up with my feet in the frame once in a while. Like a lot of long-timers here, I have trouble picking a favourite sock, both because I have so many and because my ultra favourites are ones that no longer exist and that I keep darning since I know there’s no replacement.
Right now, I think my favourite, by pure regularity of wear, are the Acrylic Slouch Socks. Their colours are unrelenting, they’re squishy and warm (I’m sensitive to wool, so acrylic for me!) and oh man, they are brighter than we can ever properly convey across your monitor.
More than socks, though, I’m an arm warmer fiend. I am a big ol’ baby about the cold and yes, I will wear arm warmers with t-shirts and tank tops because I am fancy. My collection is heavy on Harajuku Arm Warmers because they’re the perfect fit, they stand up to lots of wear, and those colours!!
Since it is my birthday month I’m going to go on about myself just a little bit longer! I’m super guilty of loving styles and not wearing them enough and I think the Black Velvet Leggings and the Bella Half-Toe No Shows With Grip are the two I feel the worst about. The leggings are perfect, guys. They’re opaque and stretchy and velvet. You can’t really ask for more. And I normally hate toe socks, but these half-toes are the best and the grip is so good. I almost want to take up yoga to have an excuse to wear them more.
Okay, I’ll stop talking your ear off and wish you folks as great a springtime as I’m having (which, since it is my birthday month, I’m having a pretty great one!).
It’s by pure accident that each month’s birthday Dreamers are picking styles perfect for the (Northern hemisphere’s) seasonal weather. And it happens once more with March!
Rosalind runs our Facebook and Pinterest most notably, and you can probably place the blame on her for some of our most egregiously dorky puns. For her recommended style Rosalind picked a perfect option for transitional seasons like spring:
Okay, this might be sacrilegious or something, but the thing that really stands out as my ultimate favorite isn’t actually a sock. The Long Cuffable Scrunchable Leg Warmers are my absolute favorite thing to put on my legs. They’re exactly like one of my favorite socks, only without the sock part. Not having a foot means that I can wear them with shoes that are too tight for thicker socks, or to sleep in (my feet always get too hot if I wear socks in bed). The best thing about them, though, is that you don’t have to wash them after every wear, because there is no foot to get stinky! It’s that rare marriage of fashion and laziness that I love so much.
Toby, the gentleman dog also pictured above, does not seem to have a favourite sock himself, as there is yet no sock that gives you belly scratches. And although he’s snuck into several of Rosalind’s shoots, he’s not the birthday boy here! So, back to Rosalind.
While looking for styles Rosalind has modelled for us, I realised something. More often than not, she models a style that gets discontinued quickly or she models tights! I have no idea why the discontinued styles thing happens, but I do know why we always get shots of her in tights. She’s our long inseam tester and if Rosalind says a style of tights won’t cramp your toes, they won’t cramp your toes.
Other than legs for miles, Rosalind also has another key skill to bring to product shots: tiny dinosaur. You’d think this wouldn’t be vital for a perfect shot, but that’s crazy talk. Even out of focus, a tiny dinosaur is absolutely necessary.
Next up is Lucy, who works in our Customer Service department and is one of my favourite rays of true sunshine. Like a lot of us here, Lucy has a signature colour, which would be the brightest pink you can handle (best when paired with royal purple and deep teal!). Her recommendation is one of the most spring-inspiring socks we’ve got, with flowers and a gradient that is like the season’s transition from cold to warm:
My absolute favorite socks are the Tibetan Flower Crew socks. The fuchsia pair were the first socks I purchased when I started working here, and are every bit as snugly and comfortable as they are gorgeous. Once it looked like we weren’t going to be able to restock them, so I bought a pair in each color, plus an extra fuchsia, just in case. Fortunately, they stuck around, and now they’re my go-to sock. I wear them in boots in the winter and mary-janes in the summer, and one day I’ll probably own enough pairs to wear one each day of the week.
And since they’ve got two new colours (Red and Green, which don’t have pictures up just yet), Lucy won’t even have to repeat a colour of ‘em during the work week! Her love of colour and gameness to try new styles makes Lucy one of the go-to models for crazy toe socks. She’s even got a pair of flip flops stashed away in her desk for sudden toe sock picture emergencies.
How Lucy keeps her sunny, bright cheerfulness even during the big rush of Christmas season is pretty obvious to me. She’s magic. Look, you can tell by the styles she’s modelled. Wizarding school arm warmers? A fairy wand in a picture of sock garters? Clearly, magic. Or maybe, all of us Dreamers are. . .
So onward and ahead to proper spring and shorter socks (if April behaves, anyhow!) Here’s a trick for these transitional seasons: the styles we put into our Autumn category have similar properties to what goes in Spring. For Autumn we just focus on darker colours, less flowers, the warmer end of the midweight scale and wool!
Such a short month, yet we still have couple of folks this time around! But their names rhyme, which is pretty fabulous. You might say they’re a perfect match! Or—just perfect at matching.
Kori is our CFO, scheduler and number brain extraordinaire! She has a very specific and earthy colour palette and her outfits colour-coordinate like a maestro. RocknSocks are some of her faves and the Uma Striped Over the Knee is the most Kori sock of the bunch! I asked her why exactly she loved these the most and this is what she emailed me:
Why the Umas are my Favourites
I wear these socks at least three times a month. That may not sound so special to you, but as I’ve been working for Sock Dreams for nearly 9 years, I have QUITE the collection of socks by now, and yet I come back to my Umas time and time again. Why? Because A) Gorgeous colours that you can match with all of your earth tone outfits; B) They are comfy and stretchy; C) They are warm, but not too warm, so you can wear them most of the year. And D) because Thurman is hot and kicked arse in Kill Bill. That is all.
I feel like the above missive is actually about why Kori is one of my favourites.
Though most of the time we see her in warm earthtones with the occasional hint of mossy green, the lady can rock a blue like nobody’s business. I know that every one of the Erin Wool & Silk socks she modelled was perfectly matched to an outfit. Or, more properly, an outfit was sculpted to perfectly match these socks!
One of the wonderful attributes about Kori is her ability to match things just right—which is why the Gamer Knee High and Brat Knee High were just as perfect for her as the Paprika O Rayons. She’s just matching her ‘tude!
Now Tori is another great matcher, one of those people with a clear personal colour scheme that means they’ll always coordinate to some degree, no matter what they pull out of their closet. She’s a colourful, skilled whirlwind at our shop, in shipping and in the stock room and says “I don’t have a particular favorite sock, since I love them all, but the brand I always gravitate to are Sock It To Me’s knee high socks. I can always find a pair to go with all my outfits and they’re so funky and fun I just love showing them off!”
And, as regular rocker of shorter pants, show them off she does! Like with the Portland Striped Knee High, which seem to they go with just about everything she owns.
Tori always brings her game and a perfectly coordinated look. I cannot express the level to which my day was made when she wore the Striped Tights in Red & White and she dressed like a super-hip elf in fuzzy boots, or how perfectly the greens in her dress matched the Color Tights in Pear.
Now really, pretty much all of us here are crazy into colour coordination. And in the dark, short, wild-weather month of February, finding ways to bring some colour into your days is like a rainbow road into spring!
