Summer officially began last week and although we know some of you prefer to totally eschew socks in the warm months, this summer we’ve got some skimpy little footies to line your shoes and some fabulous openwork styles to add a little more coverage even when you’re wearing less for the weather.
Tabbisocks rocked our, um, socks this summer with a delightful batch of no-show footies. Most of them have a soft, squishy pad under the ball of the foot, to add a little more cushion and care. We love this feature, because a lot of dress shoes and sandals don’t have much cushion! If you love these socks, get them while you can, because we’ve found Tabbisocks treats a lot of their styles seasonally and we might not have these into the colder months!
Footie socks are pretty sweet when the sun starts beating down. They’re a protective layer between you and your shoes, absorbing sweat and helping prevent blisters. A couple of sportier footie options (all of which will show more over your shoes than the Tabbisocks no-shows) are the Bamboo No Show 3-Packs, the Lightweight Running No-Show Toe Socks and the pedicure-perfect Bella Half Toe No Shows with Grip.
But what if you would like to still cover your legs a little, even while wearing shorts? Our Openwork category to the rescue! More than just fishnet and lace, openwork comes in a wonderful array of variations to suit your style and shows a bit more skin than regular lightweight styles.
What is (I think) pretty fun about our Openwork category is that it lets me link you directly to the scrumptious Foot Traffic “texture” styles. Named after fancy, famous cities, they’re Dreamer and customer favourites when it comes to layering! And I could not just pick a couple to show you, so here are all of them!
If you do keep on wearing socks in the summer months (and goodness knows, we do!), what is your game plan? Lightweight legcoverage or just enough fabric to keep your feet from becoming one with your shoes?
I will say this for Valentines day, I like seeing all the lacy decorations. I’m not a very girly person, but I have one heck of a soft spot for lacy bits and stockings that don’t keep you warm. It’s not just me that’s feeling frilly and fancy, earlier this winter Style.com had an article (and slideshow) about “elaborate hose” showing up more often on the runway and on celebrities.

This, as any dedicated sock fan knows, is just the rest of the world catching up! What the popularity of fancy tights means is that our suppliers are offering more options and we have more great styles to choose from!
Of course, I am not a runway model or a celebrity that gets driven around everywhere. I have to deal with the still-too-cold-for-my-taste weather of February. I’m guessing you do too, so remember, a gorgeous lace or net style is just as stunning (if not more so) layered over something like the Color Tights or the Foot Traffic Combed Cotton Tights.
Let’s start off with all the amazing options from Foot Traffic. They offer some great textured tights, most with plus size options and some of them come in white even!
More lovely, lacy options after the jump! Read more »
We now have zoom capabilities and larger images are literally popping up all over Sock Dreams…
We won’t have all of them done, or even most of them, for some time to come…
But all new items will be zoom-able from now on and I’ll be busily updating images throughout the site in the days, weeks and months ahead (with a little help from Brenna who has also been contributing to the sock images in recent months).
you get a quick zoom that follows your cursor on mouseovers…
and if you click on the small image you get a full image that you can drag anywhere on the page so that you can see the large image and read the description at the same time if you like…
We’ll also be adding more views in the future for those styles that have details you can only see from certain angles, soon to be followed by all those other little tidbits we’ve been working on recently like logins, wishlists and color searches.
Foot Traffic’s Lace Topped Rag Socks…
These are sort of a sleeper of a sock, one I secretly adore, then wonder why the rest of the world doesn’t love them as much as I do. They are topped with the kind of lace that isn’t so frilly it can’t go through a normal wash load with the rest of my clothes. Thick enough to be a slipper sock for around the house or add that extra bit of padding in looser shoes, they make a perfect boot sock too. They may be one of our thickest short socks (the New Zealand Bedsocks are perhaps a tad thicker), but I still enjoy wearing them even on warmer days because they breathe well, I even managed to stretch the toe out a little to wear comfortably with my flip flops yesterday.
I only have a pair of the pretty rose tinged oatmeal, but am sure to have one of each before long. Because, you know, you can never have too many socks!
Raubynn has sort of been an unofficial sock girl and one of my dearest friends for at least a couple of years now. She, like so many of you, often has trouble getting socks to properly fit her above average feet & stems so a pair of the robin’s egg blue O Lovelies in the large size was a must try for her. And just like us she found the large size too large for her shoe size 10 toes, and just like us she loved them anyway. When she showed me her pictures I asked if I could share her results with all of you because her shoes are so darned pretty! We have the small size on its way to us now too…
I have to say I loved these on line from the first moment
…but then when I got them in my hands I wasn’t too sure
…and the foot was actually very large….
I just wasn’t sure…
although the look is what was in my memory from long ago
…after boiling them to shrink the feet (heehee) and actually wearing them around -
I really fell in love with them
…and they are so good with maryjanes- were not too thick at all…
loved the look and I loves the little – not too much – slouchiness of them….
very old fashioned I think….
very Brooke Shields “Pretty Baby”…
the color is so soft on these…very beautiful…and i adore the ribbing.
and both sides stayed thru all my wearing them the way i had arranged them…
one side cuffed with a bit of scrunch…the other up over my knee. A+
