We’ve got a new sticker for you, just in time for your Mardi Gras orders! Our lovely logo lady is decked out in her Fat Tuesday finest, with mask, feathers, beads and Green Knees. To receive a sticker in your next order, write “I would like a Mardi Gras sticker please” in your Order Notes.
Unlike many residents of northern climate zones, we in Portland very rarely see snow, so when it actually sticks as it did last week, the city really shuts down. This is partially due to a lack of snow plows or experience driving in snow, but also because it’s such a rare occurrence that we all just want to take the day off & enjoy it!
Here at Sock Dreams we feel a deep responsibility for keeping everyone’s toes warm so we don’t give in and stay home easily — as long as our website is up, customers can keep placing orders so we do our darnedest to keep filling them and sending them off. For this reason we stayed open through three days of [Portland paralyzing] snow, closing only on Sunday after we were hit by freezing rain, making for some extra-dangerous driving (and walking!) conditions.
Don’t worry, though –we still got some work done, despite all the fun! On Monday we managed to get two days worth of packages out the door on schedule!
If you’ve been shopping with us for a while, you might know by now that while we carry socks from a multitude of different suppliers, we also have a few house brands that are made just a little bit dreamier than regular socks. These brands are Dream Stockings and Dreamer Socks, while gift cards and non-sock accessories such as garters and gloves are part of our third and eponymous brand: Sock Dreams!
This week we’re proud to announce the addition of yet another house line: Oops! Socks in the Oops! line are the same great socks that you recognize from Dream Stockings and Dreamer Socks, only these batches were made with some slight flaws! We don’t like wasting things (especially socks), so we’ve decided to sell these since their flaws have no effect on their structural integrity – we do feel that they merit a discount, however!
Oops! O Basics have just a bit of extra texture!
Some of these socks are only flawed in terms of sizing, but because they all have their own errors going on, we do recommend that you read their product information carefully – we want to provide you with savings, not unpleasant surprises!
Currently the line consists of four products, which will likely become a rotating selection as we sell out of flawed batches and get others in. Available now are Oops! Extraordinary Wool Socks, Extraordinary Thigh Highs, O Basics, and Extraordinary Stripes, some of which are perfectly normal except that they were supposed to be Extraordinarily Longer! As the selection is changed out, you’ll be able to find it in the Sale Section, or by simply typing “Oops!” into the search field!
Here at Sock Dreams we believe that even accidents can be happy, and in that spirit we hope that you will enjoy these variations on our dreamiest socks!
We have a sweet treat this upcoming Valentine’s Day! Our logo lady has put on her best Pink Knees and brought all the candy hearts to the party.
If you’d like to receive a sticker in your next order, make sure to put “May I have a Valentine’s Sticker please?” in your order notes. Amounts are limited, so one sticker per order please!
Every so often we have a chance to do something truly meaningful as a company (or individuals). These opportunities aren’t always the happiest of occasions though — in fact it is usually during the truly dark times that we are called upon to step up and lend a helping hand, and this winter was no exception. One of our coworkers has spent this last season undergoing chemotherapy for lymphoma, and as many cancer survivors can tell you, the financial burden of treatment on top of being unable to work can be the most stressful thing about the already unpleasant experience. Even with temporary unemployment and the great healthcare that we Dreamers receive, we knew it wouldn’t be enough. That’s when we decided to ask our community for help on our coworker’s behalf.
We decided to use our collective personal time and money to put together a raffle basket. It immediately became clear that everyone here really really cares, as the donations consisted of some seriously great stuff: hand crafted items, gift certificates (including a 45 minute massage!) and some generally luxe products started pouring in!
The most beautiful moment of all came when we posted this photo of the basket to our shop’s facebook page, and within 24 hours it had over 30 shares and some incredibly heartfelt notes! Since we kept ticket sales to our shop in Sellwood, it was largely our own neighbors who came in to buy tickets, raising enough money to make a serious dent in our colleague’s medical expenses!
At the end of business hours on December 30th Dreamer Gelsey drew our winning raffle ticket! We left a voicemail for the winner, and in the following days a few different people came in to claim the basket, to our vast confusion. As it turned out, several workers at a neighboring company had all bought tickets under the same name, just because they thought it was a good cause (and hopefully they’re enjoying the basket, too)!
Many many thanks to everyone who helped us out on this project! Nothing has warmed our hearts this winter quite like this — even a really good pair of socks can’t compare with the kindness of our community.
