We had our best turn out yet for February’s Dreamer Dress Up contest. The theme was Amethyst and Violet. In other words, shades of purple. We received some truly gorgeous submissions this time and we want to share them with you!
Our first two finalists brought out the beauty of purple’s darker hues. Olivia stunning cape brings out the richness of the plum in her Extraordinary Striped Thigh Highs, and makes the lilac really pop. Meshel, who was very nearly in our top three, found a skirt that exactly matched the purple in her Multi Stripe Over the Knee socks. Olivia and Meshel really captured the theme of our contest with their sweet and flirtatious entries.
Heather’s lavender outfit, Long Cuffable Scrunchables, and tree hugging photo captivated the lighter side of purple. They also made us smile. Jess and Erin traveled from Washington to our shop in Portland to show off their violet socks. Jess paired her Striped OTK Toe Socks with a rainbow skirt, while Erin’s Extraordinary Striped Thigh Highs added some color to her little black dress. Steph is staying warm and looking cool in her Fleece Lined Leggings. She sent a special message to her fiance on Valentines with this outfit by adding the Love Ya crews.
It is cold up in the North East right now, and that’s why Amy Lynn is wearing triple layers. She is getting cozy in dark red Purple Knees over plum M45’s, which she has layered over her Signature Cotton Tights by Foot Traffic. Sadeyeartist, as our next model prefers to be called, is also from the North East. She is keeping warm by staying indoors and wearing two Crinoline Skirts over purple Striped Tights. She stays extra warm with Super Long Ribbed Leg Warmers which she keeps in place with Snappy D-Ring Garters.
As for our three finalists, we just couldn’t resist any of them. Summer rocks her plum and lilac Super Stripes, and an amazing guitar. Nate is lovely in his Extraordinary Striped Thigh Highs. And Rose, well, Rose pulled together seven different Sock Dreams items into one of the best photos we’ve received so far! If you want to learn more about these three finalists and why we loved them so much, check out our newsletter!

These are just a few more ways we are working to provide great service to sock lovers and dreamers around the world!
Some of you may have noticed over the years that we here at Sock Dreams are rather fond of our vices… while “sock hoarding” is probably the number one vice for most of us, we’re also fans of assorted boozes, in moderation. Gumball Poodle has been good enough to supply us with so many boozy word socks over the years that it wasn’t until after a photoshoot at our friendly neighborhood bar (featuring virgin drinks – after all, it was 3PM and we were all on the clock) that we noticed kind of a conspicuous hole in our sock liquor cabinet…. ABSINTHE!
Distilled with anise seed and fennel (which makes it taste vaguely of licorice), Absinthe was once very popular among artists, writers, Parisiennes and romantics in general, but gained notoriety due to its traditional inclusion of wormword. Stemming from severely overblown reports of the psychoactive properties of this drink (in reality it is no more hallucinogenic than whiskey or vodka), it was made illegal in many countries for the better part of a century. It was relegalized in the USA a few years back, and while those of us who have tried it are more fond of it in theory than reality, there’s no denying the allure of this infamous beverage.
Those of you familiar with the history of this drink (or perhaps the film Moulin Rouge) may also have heard of “la fée verte,” or “the green fairy”. This is not only a euphemism for the drink itself, but the embodiment of the artistic spirit and romantic ideals. About 2 minutes into our conversation about getting ABSINTHE socks it became clear that we would need coordinating fairy socks. We settled on the spelling, “FAERY,” as it was a nice compromise between “fairy” and “faerie”, and looked the best in our signature Art Nouveau font.
And so it is that we present to you our two new Sock Dreams exclusive styles from Gumball Poodle – ABSINTHE and FAERY in inverted colors – perfect for mixing or matching! We recommend pouring them over a sugar lump and diluting with water until they become slightly cloudy…… or just put them on your feet and enjoy! Most importantly, always drink (or wear) your ABSINTHE responsibly!
It’s almost time for the most romantic of holidays, and while we know it’s not for everyone, we still think it’s a great excuse to to honor love of all kinds.
LOVE Knee Highs from Gumball Poodle keep their message simple and to-the-point.
Love is a wonderful thing, because it doesn’t have to be about romance. This is still a great time to celebrate platonic love, or the love for yourself that can be so difficult to foster. It can be about your love of socks, or the love that a sock company feels for all of its amazing customers…. like you!
Heart Lace Foot Wraps would be unique and romantic even without the adorable little hearts that cover them!
It so happens that this sock company has so much love for their customers that we want to give you all a special valentine:
From February 6th until 11:59 PM on Valentine’s Day (which will be on Saturday the 14th), we’re offering 20% off of all orders of $14 or more! Just enter the code, “SonnetSocks” when you go to your shopping cart between now and the 14th!
Our Valentine’s Logo Lady is available as a sticker – just make an order note requesting one when you place an order!
Much love, and Happy Valentine’s Day!
You might not be aware of this, but some of us like to dabble in the divinatory arts… while none of us have the natural talents of Professor Trelawney (then again, her talents are subconscious, so we might be kind of like her when her abilities aren’t manifesting), we thought it might be fun to do a general reading for the new year, using some of our fancy tools!
Ever ambitious, we thought we’d start out with scrying, or crystal ball gazing. This is thought to be one of the most difficult forms of divination, as it relies on the diviner’s ability to see images in the ball, other than the reflections of the room. Gazing into the ball, the image began to clear, and I beheld….. my own hands, magnified. This probably doesn’t mean much, except that we have a lot of room to improve on our scrying over the next year. Moving on, then.
Even if you only see your own hand while scrying, your hand could be quite the sight in Palmistry Arm Warmers from Una!
We had to try out some tasseography, or the reading of tea leaves. These days you can learn darned near anything on the internet, and that’s how we learned tasseography. After looking up instructions and a visual guide to leaf formations, we made some tea, drained the cup, gave the dregs a swirl, and dumped them out onto a napkin. Examining what was left in the cup we saw… er…. some tea leaf globules? Perhaps they represent new socks? We didn’t find any meaning for “globule” formations in the guide, so… probably socks.
Next we did a bit of light Tarot; a form of cartomancy based on Medieval playing cards. It’s a good method for beginners, as each card provides a wealth of information and symbolism to interpret. As we concentrated on the year to come, I let my hand play over the backs of the deck, until it came to rest on the card that felt right…. flipping the card, we beheld the face of Justice. This card represents the search for truth, pure impartiality and true fairness. We hope this is a good omen for the year to come, but if you’ve been naughty you might want to watch yourself!
Upcoming Tabbisocks arm warmers in oatmeal.
Having found the tarot to be a bit vague, as it often is, we decided to ask yet another source: the pendulum. A pendulum can only give “true or false” answers, and you must calibrate these responses before asking any questions. On the other hand, it’s darned hard to not get a clear answer when there are only two available! After determining the swing patterns in which the pendulum gave each possible answer, we asked it, “True or false? 2015 will be a less trying year than 2014 was.”
The answer was clear: “tralse”.
