Happy Octoberween, everyone! We don’t know about you, but this is hands-down one of our favourite times of year. Fall has just hit and we have a month of jack-o-lanterns, candy, and cheesy black and white horror films to look forward to. This year we’re bringing you three terrifyingly fabulous monster stickers inspired a little by old cinema and scary stories.
The Monster’s Bride is looking absolutely shocking in simple White and Black Knees. We think she has an electric appeal.
And finally, the creature that goes “boo!” in the night, a hauntingly beautiful ghost. This grey lady wears N Stripes in Granite and Light Grey, to match her unearthly appearance.
If you’d like to take home one of our scary stickers, just wish us a Happy Halloween in your order notes and let us know which scream queen you prefer!
It’s been a few months since we first brought in some anklets from Peony & Moss for summer, which just means that we’ve had that long to fall even more in love with this company! We’ve seen an awful lot of socks over the years, but nothing quite like this line. Their designs feature flirty details, such as lace and lots of ruffles, as well as knitted-in designs which range from sweet to bold.
Based in Seattle, the brains behind Peony & Moss had a clear vision in mind for their brand; the only challenge was finding knitting machines which were capable of producing the kinds of patterns and construction they wanted, in the custom Pantone colors and small minimums which would make it possible for this small, independent company to start production. Their search ended up leading them to Haining, China, where they were able to locate a factory with the kind of advanced sock technology which is currently only available there.
We are happy to report that their Haining factory has been audited by Intertek – a London-based multinational inspection company. In fact, they have not only been audited, but have won an achievement award for their production practices, including labor, wages, hours, health and safety of factory workers, as well as their management system. If you’ve been following our company for a while, you might know that these are really important factors to us!
The prospects of this company just gets brighter and brighter – we were really excited to learn that they’re about to introduce a line of bootsocks that are made in the USA! We don’t want to spoil the surprise for anybody, but we think you’re going to be pretty excited about them, too… Peony & Moss have managed to make a great impression on us in just their first year of business, and we can’t wait to see what their future holds!
We’ve just concluded our second-ever Pinterest contest, and we have to say, these were some pretty impressive submissions! Narrowing our options down was tough, but we finally managed to select six winners who really conveyed the “Back-to-School” theme, while showcasing our favorite accessories: socks!
Our first place winner and recipient of a $75 gift card was Jessica G., who captured our hearts with this vintage-inspired look in shades of tan and red. Featuring red Color Tights and the scrumptiously soft Leola Merino Bouclé Anklets, Jessica payed great attention to detail, and we love the way she explains every element of the outfit in captions.
Our second place winner, Sharon Rose, also went with a vintage vibe, though instead of the clean lines and pert tweedy patterns that Jessica chose, she went with a softer, more feminine look, featuring an abundance of foxes, including the Fox Slipper Socks from Foot Traffic. We love the freshness of her mint and rust color scheme, and her selection of literature for her first day back to school.
We’ve got to give it up for our first honorable mention, submitted by Jill. We can see that she clearly built the entire outfit around a pair of Abstract Rhythms Midcalves, and continued the themes of color blocking and crayon colors from there. This outfit just screams, “art kid” (and actually came with kind of an artist’s statement, appropriately enough), and we really can’t argue with that.
Ginie’s outfit board also earned an honorable mention. Featuring subtle makeup, neutral tones, and lots of classic pearls, this look really draws your attention to the Harvest Rainbow Thigh Highs, and you know we love a good sock-centric style! To keep the stockings up, Ginie chose a pair of Extra Long Sock Garters with Suspender Clips in olive — so stylish and practical!
Rachel, another winner of an honorable mention, came through with this outfit that we think is perfectly suited to a witch’s first day back at school. The bracelet referencing Harry Potter ties in nicely with the feather nails and tree branch patterned bag, which remind us of Harry’s faithful snowy owl, Hedwig. The amethyst ring, cloak and scarf featuring a map of Tolkien’s Middle Earth just seal the deal. Of course an aspiring sorcerer needs good legwear staples, and we think the combination of Perfect Pair Tights and 4 Button Ribbed Leg Warmers from Foot Traffic are ideal for a magical, scholarly environment.
Theresa’s submission really brightened our day, drawing from a hodgepodge of delightfully geeky influences, from school supplies (captured well by the Ashi Dashi Notebook Paper Knee Highs) to scifi and fantasy references, including Sorcerer Sleeves. And how cute would that red petticoat be with the R2D2 dress? SO cute! Theresa definitely earned herself an honorable mention with this look.
Thanks so much to everybody who submitted! It’s been incredibly fun looking at what you all came up with, and we can’t wait for our next contest!

As you may be aware, Sock Dreams all started with one woman and her dream of being self-employed at her own sock company. Over the years her dream has grown into the company that we know and love today, and has provided us with opportunities to support other women and independent entrepreneurs, which we find very rewarding. The artist we’d like to draw your attention to today has actually been at it longer than we have: Wendy Costa has been producing her home and accessories line, featuring her own paintings and poetry since 1987, though she just started printing socks back in 2010. We absolutely adore her iconic art style, so of course we jumped at the chance to carry some of her styles!
Working out of a historic church in upstate New York, Wendy’s studio prints all of their fabric by hand, in small batches. All of their materials are sourced within the USA, which is true of our own house brands, and something that is very important to us!
Our current selection features four styles, which we consider prime examples of the kind of motifs Wendy Costa is known and loved for. The Deborah Grey and Junebug Printed Knee Highs have an off-beat Rococo vibe, featuring classic vertical stripes with a deliberately hand-drawn aesthetic, and fanciful ornamentation which pairs nicely with heels or flats. We love the way these play off of vintage fashion, but have a definite contemporary edge.
Other prominent themes in Wendy’s work include food, vintage appliances, animals and women. Her Cat and Music Crews (shown in the first photoset) depict one cat serenading another on the concertina, in a tiled and wallpapered setting which reminds us of a cafe in 1950’s France. Of course, we couldn’t bring in Wendy Costa socks without at least one design featuring one of her women! Willow Knee Highs (pictured below) feature a sassy redhead who peeks out from your ankles amidst a swirl of leaves, flowers, and plenty of vivid color!
From the origins of the socks themselves, to the imagery which makes them so recognizable, Wendy Costa’s designs are right up our alley! We’re very happy to share our dream of beautiful, expressive socks with this talented artist, and can’t wait to see what she creates in the future!
