We offer FREE USPS shipping on all US orders!
It’s been over three years since we started sending out our email newsletters, and it’s been an awful lot of fun! Of course, three years is plenty of time for rethinking things, and it so happens that we think we can do even better… If you’re already signed up for our Dreamer Dispatches, you may have noticed that in addition to our customarily wordy pieces, we’ve recently started sending some short-form emails. These are heavier on photos, and feature new items and sales. Of course, our newsletter has only ever been sent to folks who have signed themselves up for it, and so the time has come to offer our followers a fuller range of choices.
Enter our new subscriptions page! You now have the freedom to pick and choose which emailings you’d like to receive! We still have the classic, “Newsletter” option, which features a monthly story or article about socks. This is where the really meaty content lives, and they range from informative to incredibly silly, but they’re just about always a fun read!
Selecting the “New & Featured Items” box will bring you image-heavy content, with minimal text. If you want to stay on top of what’s happening in the world of socksy fashions, this is the email for you! We hand-select the very best of each new batch of socks for these newsletters.
Of course, the email that everybody is going to want to sign up for would be the “Sales & Discounts” option. This will be your first place to learn about discount codes and items that are currently available at a special sale price! Need we say more??
You might notice that there is a fourth option for the “Sock Dreams Portland Store”. This is for our local brick and mortar shop, and while these emailings are still in the works, they will eventually be a great resource for locals (or anybody visiting Portland) as they’ll feature store-only items, discounts and events! You can go ahead and sign up right now if you’d like to receive these once they’re available!
Those of you who signed up for our newsletters back when there was just the one option will continue to receive all of the first three types of email by default, but you can change your subscription settings, too! Just go to the bottom of your last Dreamer Dispatch and click the linked word, “unsubscribe.” Rather than automatically removing you from our email list as it used to, this will now take you to a page with options, where you can uncheck any email types that you don’t wish to receive anymore. We never want anybody to feel spammed by us, which is why we believe in giving our customers options… but of course we hope you’ll choose to join in the fun of all of our newsletters!
Our stickers have become one of our most popular products over the years. Even though we give them out free of charge, we’ve had enough requests to start offering stickers for sale that we decided to give it a try this winter with our Holiday Sticker Pack! Now, we will still be offering out some freebie stickers, but the only way to get the bundle stickers is to buy ‘em.
Right about when we moved to our new Indigo building, we came across StandOut Stickers who print, cut, and package their stickers from their small business in Ohio. We love working with other small businesses who produce made in the USA products, and we soon discovered that SOS makes a mighty fine product. Our stickers are 5″ by 3.25″ custom die-cut on high quality 3 mil vinyl stock, and come coated in a UV gloss laminate finish. That means you can stick our logo on your bumper or on the side of your tree house and it will be fade free for up to 5 years.
We’re starting off our bundles with four vintage Sock Dreams holiday stickers, and one that is brand new to you! Holiday Blues was made in 2012, but never released. Our Holiday Sticker Pack is the only way to get this beautiful logo. Each sticker pack includes one each of the following: Holiday Blues (new for 2015!), Holiday Peppermint Cocoa (2014), Holiday Cookies (2013), Holiday Cranberry Antlers and Holiday Lilacs (2012). They’re perfect to include with gifted socks, or to round out your collection if you missing any holiday logos.
We wish you lots of fun and the warmest toes this winter season, from all of us here at Sock Dreams.
2016 is fast approaching, have you bought your calendar yet? If not, we’ve got you all set whether you’re buying for yourself or for a sock-loving friend! Let us introduce you to our very first Sock Dreams Calendar. At 11.75” by 17” and printed on heavy-duty paper, our calendar is the perfect size for hanging on a bedroom or cubicle wall. We’ve selected twelve of our favourite socks to dress up the pages. Each is surrounded by a lovely vintage art nouveau frame on a rainbow of damask backgrounds with a calendar grid generous enough to fit all your birthdays and appointments.
Our calendar is a little different than most because our week starts on Monday instead of Sunday, keeping the weekend at the end of the week where it belongs! Holidays and celebration days are represented by their own special colour-coded icons, with a key on the last page for your reference. And just in case you like to keep track of what the Moon is doing, we’ve included all its many phases for you too.
We only have a limited number of our 2016 calendars, so place your orders or stop into our Sellwood Store today to get yours!
Some of our favorite items to stock for the cold seasons are luxurious styles of arm warmers. Your hands are particularly sensitive to touch, meaning they really appreciate being wrapped in soft fibers. Your hands are also much closer to your eyes than your feet, which makes beautiful arm warmers easier to see and appreciate than socks. Today we’d like to take a look at one of our new suppliers for 2015, who are making arm warmers that are both soft and beautiful, making them the perfect gift; emiLime!
Star Arm Warmers (shown here in purple haze and cinnabar) feature a subtly scalloped design on one side, with stretchy ribbing on the other
Based in Lima, Peru, emiLime is dedicated to working with the local community, both in terms of sourcing the fibers that their arm warmers are knitted from, as well as the production of the garments themselves. Each design is a collaborative effort between the brains behind the company, and the local artisans who hand-knit every pair of arm warmers.
Dots Arm Warmers are available in bright or muted colorways
As stated on their website, part of emiLime’s mission is, “supporting economic development in vulnerable communities through craft.” This starts with materials. Both the alpaca fiber which most of their styles are knitted from, and the sheep wool that others incorporate are sourced from within Peru, with the company dealing directly with the producers. A lower environmental impact is just an added benefit to locally sourcing the majority of their materials. While most of the emiLime warmers we carry are 100% alpaca, a few styles make use of sheep wool, as well as some small percentages of acrylic and polyamide yarn to achieve the desired shape and texture.
Puff Arm Warmers alternate fibers for stripes of both color and texture.
Before samples for each new design are created, emiLime consults with their artisan leaders from within the community. The result is that techniques and fibers can be used to their greatest potential, for an ideal collaboration. With designs ranging from simple to ornate, there’s something for everybody!
Aire Arm Warmers are thick, but light, with an ultra-soft halo.
Once the design process is complete, each pair of warmers is hand-knitted by a local craftsperson. In fact, each pair comes with the name of the artisan who knitted it right on the label! Many of the knitters employed by emiLime are women who are able to do their work from their own homes, to supplement their families’ incomes.

While we think that the beauty and feel of these warmers is reason enough to love them, their whole mission and collaborative process just makes us adore emiLime all the more. As a low-impact, community oriented company, we really appreciate where they’re coming from, so stay tuned! We have more styles from emiLime up our sleeves……. or rather, our arm warmers!
