Maybe you’ve already read our latest Dreamer Dispatch, but in case you haven’t signed up yet, we just received word that Lefty, a sock who went missing and was presumed taken by gremlins or else sucked into the sock vortex, has actually be gallivanting about the globe this entire time. Rather selfish of him to leave us in the lurch like that, don’t you think? Ah well, we can’t stay too angry at a sock for living his dreams…
Lefty didn’t have to go too far to get to his first destination – the Anisazi dwellings are just over in Colorado – not far from his home here in Oregon!
We did, however, have a stern word with him about keeping in touch during his travels. There might have been a certain amount of accusatory finger waggling, and phrases such as, “Don’t you ever do that to us again, we’ve been worried sick, do you have any idea what you’ve put poor Righty through?! ” may or may not have been spoken. Lefty agrees that his behavior during this time has been deplorable, and so has made a concerted effort to keep us informed of his whereabouts. We know you were all worried too, so we wanted to share the postcards that have been arriving from attractions around the world!
Going south, Lefty found his way to the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu. He looks appropriately impressed.
In fact we liked some of Lefty’s postcards so much that we decided to make them into printable PDFs for you, in case you want to get some vicarious kicks while keeping in touch with your own friends and family!
Oooh! Aaah! Lefty joins the crowds admiring the Taj Mahal in India.
Most importantly, though, we’re having our longest Lost Sock Memorial Day Sale in Sock Dreams history! We’re doing a whole weekend! From 12:01 AM (PST) on Friday the 8th until 11:59 PM on Sunday the 10th, everything will be 25% off, with no minimum order! Just use the code WheresLefty at check out (or mention it in our shop) to receive your discount!
One simply can’t visit Australia without a Quokka selfie these days! We have to wonder how Lefty is holding the camera, though…
Our Flora & Fauna Dreamer Dress-Up has ended, and oh my are we inspired! Prepare yourself for oodles of fun florals, with a dash or fantastic fauna to round it all out.
Our first winner, and the only entrant to truly capture both aspects of our theme, is Sage! She also packed a bunch of Sock Dreams products in one outfit: Dreamer Jacquard Flowering Vine OTKs in two colours over Floral Flocked Tights over Black Cat Tights, and topped off with Vintage Lace Arm Cozies. We’re also really into the flower crown, rainbow horses shirt, and floral print tennies. Talk about going the extra mile!
Next up is Sabrina, who looks absolutely dreamy in Midnight Garden Sheer Printed Tights. Sabrina writes that she feels “like I stepped out of a fairy tale” wearing them, and we absolutely agree with this floral princess!
Our final winner is Jumping Joycie, who took 40 photos to get one just right! Joycie also takes a page from Sage’s book and layers several products: Color Tights and Opaque Tights cut to be thigh highs, Nordic Texture Tights, and Pansy OTKs, which have sadly been discontinued.
Thank you for taking this lovely jaunt through the daisies with us! We hope you have enjoyed our special features of our favourite people, aka YOU! Keep an eye on our Newsletter and keep an eye on our Latest News for more special features and great sales to come.
Sock Dreams is pleased to introduce you to one of our newest suppliers: The Big Tights Company! These beautiful styles are produced on a knitting machine that has been customized with the higher end of Plus Size in mind. Features include a deeper waist-to-gusset reinforced panty top to accommodate tummies and bottoms, comfy waistband, and the largest size boasts a hip stretch up to 90 inches while the thighs can stretch up to 40 inches.
On paper, these tights look amazing. So much so that we knew we had to get them on our customers. We put out a model call on our tumblr and it received hundreds of notes, and over fifty models applied. In the end we could only bring in six of these wonderful models, and it was an amazing experience for us! We got to put some faces (and feet!) to screennames, and had a lot of fun chatting and joking around while taking photos of gorgeous people. We also got a lot of amazing feedback about how these tights actually fit real bodies, and we were not disappointed.
Instead of waxing poetic for days about how wonderful these tights are, we’ll let our models speak for themselves!
Leslie’s thoughts on the Plus 20 Denier Tights in Black and Brown: “I was very happy with the fit and quality of the 20 denier tights. Even though I was close to the top of the sizing in the hips, I have plenty of room for stretch, at least a 3-4 inches. I especially like the way the tops were made. I don’t feel like I’m going to rip the crotch seam, and they didn’t bind. But they weren’t baggy either.”
Rakayla’s thoughts on the Extra Plus 20 Denier Tights in Brown: I like them! As long as I have a knee length skirt on they’re great. They’re roomy and I wouldn’t have even noticed they were on if it wasn’t for us taking pictures in them. Lol. For tall plus size girls this is for sure an answered prayer. I give them an 8/10. Only because of that confusing seam thing* but besides that they’re perfect.”
*These tights have a double seam in the rear, which may take a little fiddling to get on correctly if you’re not familiar with them. Here’s an example of what that looks like.
Molly’s thoughts on the Extra Plus 180 Denier Tights: “The overall fit is good, though for me a little loose as I’m shorter than average. With a 29” inseam, I found that I had to pull the tights up a bit more than expected to have them feel fully comfortable and not have “elephant” knees. The panty portion was amazingly comfortable, and there was no digging into my 63″ waist. Also, there was no riding up into the crotch, or sagging. The knit of the tights were wonderfully soft, and reminded me of the cotton knit tights we had as kids, and always wanted as adults. I’m so glad they’ve made these. This is a perfect spring, fall, or even winter tight.”
Molly’s thoughts on the Extra Plus 20 Denier tights in Beige: “The pair I tried on were amazingly comfortable for hose. Unlike the tights, this pair didn’t have quite the room in them. Even so, there was no riding up, cutting in, or sagging in the fit at all. Also, unlike other larger sized hose, this pair did not feel overly stretched on my 33″ thighs and didn’t cut into my skin. They honestly took all the blemishes and bruises and calmed them down to nothing. As my skin is so fair, it honestly didn’t even look like I was wearing hose.”
Sierra’s thoughts on the Plus 180 Denier Tights: “Super soft, comfy, the waistband didn’t roll down or bunch up, honestly better than any tights I’ve bought anywhere else. My only problem was they were a little too big, so they were scrunchy in some areas but it was a cute look.”
Nancy had this to say about the Extra Plus 20 Denier Tights in Black: “I don’t generally wear sheers because I’m hard on hosiery and shred them to pieces in minutes. These actually lasted through a whole day of work and play without a snag. Impressive! The toebox is really comfortable (my lil piggies are sensitive and hate being squished), and didn’t migrate on me during the day. Initially the fit was a little tricky, as getting them seated over the fullest part of my thigh required a bit of wiggle and readjustment, but once I got them in place they fit well, with lots of extra room in the hip and belly, but not so much that they bagged out in the leg.”
Allison’s thoughts on the Plus 20 Denier Tights in Beige: “These really are incredibly roomy. Probably the only pair of tights/hose that I’ve ever worn that stayed in place at the waist without rolling down. Lots of crotch room, lots of stretch. They are very finely woven, though, which is great because they look very natural but you do have to be super careful not to pick or snag these with your nails or jewelry.”
If you’re interested in trying these wonderful tights, but aren’t sure which size to choose, you can always drop us a line with your measurements and we will help you decide which will be best for you. And if you do buy them, please consider leaving an honest review on the product page with as much info as possible–you may be helping someone with similar measurements find the perfect product!
When we first found out about FOTSIE Wraps we had to have them, even though we were just going into the colder months. In addition to being one of the most original designs we’ve seen, they’re also hand made in the USA, from a tiny woman-run company — we happen to have a soft spot for that.
Now that Spring is here, we’re getting more adventurous in experimenting with these hand-crafted foot adornments, and wanted to share some of our results with you! The thing we first loved about these is that they fit into the same wardrobe niche which has been filled by a whole lot of no-shows in recent years. Now, we do understand the appeal of a low-coverage sock in summer, but something about trying to look like you’re not wearing socks at all seems just a little sacrilegious to some of us. What’s great about FOTSIE Wraps is that while they work with most of the outfits that one would wear no-shows with, they are visible, and add a great embellishment to your shoes, while being a light-weight whisper of fabric that lets your feet breathe in hot weather.
As it turns out, they’re also great for adding adorable accents to your shoes in cooler months, given enough layers! Because most of them are sheer, they layer over solid tights beautifully. Dreamer Rae put her black wraps over burgundy Opaque Tights, so a deep dark red shows through. Dreamer Lucy went for lower cotrast, wearing her royal Heart Lace wraps over french blue tights, giving the combination a tonal effect.
For Dreamer Paige, it’s less about color, and more about what you do with the ties! She styled two looks for us, the first of which utilizes a pair of the Heart Lace Wraps with a pair of the Solid Modal Wraps for added volume! For her second look she layered just the sheer heart lace wraps over contrasting socklings (kept in place by garters from Revivall Clothing), but stretched the wraps up her ankles before tying them in back, so that more of the lace pattern can be seen!
Dreamer Rosalind was mostly concerned with the interplay of ankle boots and the wraps, in terms of both contrasting colors and heights – the Lace Wraps are just tall enough for their ties to trail over the tops of booties in back, for a romantic effect where you might not expect to find one. Samara Animal Print Tights add to the unusual and striking nature of this ensemble.
FOTSIE actually stands for Fruits Of The Spirit In Effect, and creativity is certainly a fruit of the spirit! We encourage you to approach wearing these with the same creativity which their inventor, Marlene, has put into the conception of these fun and versatile wraps!
Do you prefer to dream discreetly?
We would like to take a moment to let you know that we are happy to send out packages without our company name on the exterior. Often people request this when ordering gifts for someone they live with, but we know that there are a variety of reasons for which you may not wish to have your package identified as being from us, and we are not at all offended by these requests.
An example of a discreet domestic shipping label.
We think it is important to note that due to customs laws, we are required to attach a copy of the invoice, which lists items purchased, to the exterior of all international shipments. For this copy of the invoice, we list all items as “socks”, which we think is fairly innocuous. We must also provide a name for the return address. In cases where international customers request discreet packaging, we use an alternative (and more ambiguous) company name. We are working on removing all searchable ties to this name, but we think you should know that if you are concerned about prying eyes, international shipments may not be 100% secure. If you think that somebody you live with might open the customs packet or Google our alternative company name, you might want to try to find a safer address to ship to, or arrange to pick it up at a post office, if possible. We know that these measures aren’t possible for everybody, and are working to minimize these issues, though we must comply with customs law.
Examples of our international labels with our alternative name. Unfortunately we must include a name, but this one should be less obvious than Sock Dreams.
Your identities, privacy and personal safety are of the utmost importance to us. Just leave us an order note requesting that we leave off our company name and logo when you check out (order notes are on the same page as shipping options) and we will absolutely respect your wishes.
