There are several gifted musicians residing among the many Dreamers here at Sock Dreams. So when we were told that our summer ad for Bust Magazine should have a musical theme, we had just the right people for the job. We also had plenty of band equipment to work with.
Best of all, we had three varieties of Dream Stockings that rock like no others.
Nothing screams punk sock quite like our Super Stripes. At 36 inches long these stripey bad boys can be worn stretched up the thigh or scrunched over your boots. And with 15 different color varieties you can wear a different pair for each blazing guitar solo.
Our Vertically Inclined Stockings are perfect for conveying both class and sass. With eye-catching details these socks are as bold as your bass moves. The design of these cotton stockings is breathable enough to keep you cool. So you wont have to fret, while working the frets.
Because they are made of nylon, the N Stripes do a great job of staying in place. We love that, because when you are singing your heart out, you’ve got no time to stop and pull up your socks. These beauties come in array of vivid colors and have the stay-up power to keep you rocking all night long.
Even if you don’t have a killer band, these three sock varieties will have you looking like a rock star. Well, at least a sock star!
Recently we debuted our newest line of Dreamer Socks: Extraordinarily Longer Elemental Stripes. We were so inspired by the beautiful combinations that we made a whole host of stickers to match! Each is surrounded by the elements they represent, and feature their Alchemical symbol on their arm.
Cool and rich, Terra represents the element of Earth. These socks are your dependable favourites, a solid foundation to build an outfit.
Zephyr is fresh and light as a feather. The element of Air is uplifting, and brightens your whole look.
Inferno lights the element of Fire. These socks are fierce and powerful, but also warm and comforting.
The element of Water can be both liquid and solid, ocean and Glacier. This palette is dark and dreamy, and will look good under casual shorts or a froufy skirt.
Unlike the other four elements, the fifth element, Aether or Spirit, is not terrestrial in origin, but exists beyond our atmosphere. Alchemists and early scientists used it to explain all the spaces in-between; it was said that light traveled through it, and that gravity was caused by it. A lot of symbols have been used to represent Aether over the years, so we chose the one we thought fit best with the theme. It should be noted that, in Alchemy, this is also the symbol for salt.
Soon we will have regular Extraorindary Thigh High versions of these five colours, but for now we hope you enjoy these super long beauties! If you would like to receive a free Elemental sticker, please simply request one in your Order Notes field. Make sure to let us know which you want, or if you’d like for us to choose for you!
Oh, wait, we have one more! It’s not an Element like the others, but rather the wielder of one element in particular. Our Summer Sticker is this delightful Sea Witch wearing our Dreamy Knees in Seaside. She’s friendly, we swear, unless you’re throwing your litter into the ocean or poaching her whales, in which case you’d better watch out when travelling near large bodies of water…
Any connoisseur of vintage fashion knows that socks aren’t like they used to be – basically elastic was invented and at some point people started expecting that a sock would stay where you put it, and often this is true, especially with shorter styles. Unfortunately, this expectation can also be a little problematic, as gravity hasn’t really gone anywhere and not all socks are going to stay put on all legs. That’s okay though, because the original solution to the age-old gravity problem is still stylish — so stylish in fact that you might find yourself making use of it for purely decorative reasons. We’re talking garters, here.
3/4″ Elastic Buckle Garters in classic black.
You may be familiar with the Sock Dreams line of garters, which we’ve carried and loved for years. With two styles of clips, as well as clipless styles in various colors, stripes and even a vegan option, we thought we had garters pretty well covered. You can imagine, then, that we were surprised, yet ever-so pleased to discover just how wrong we were!
We adore the fawn brown that the 3/4″ Buckle Garters come in!
When Laura Lee of Revivall Clothing approached us with her garters, we were really impressed with the photos, and even more so with the sample she sent us. There’s a lot to love about these little guys – they’re hand sewn in the USA, using upcycled leather, and in addition to three neutral colors of elastic, they come in some less traditional metallic elastics that we love! The real selling point is that adorable little functioning buckle, though. It adds an even greater degree of comfort and adjustability to the garter than the elastic slider of our house styles. They can also be adjusted down small enough to keep socks up on calves that are too small for our Sock Dreams clipped garter styles (the Simply Adjustables, on the other hand can get small enough to be worn as an arm band)!
There’s just something really satisfying about grey leather on grey elastic.
This is Laura Lee’s third consecutive year to be named Best Clothing Designer for Eugene, OR, and we can see why! Her styles have a rustic and rugged country aesthetic, paired with thoughtful design and polished execution. We think it’s the perfect juxtaposition of contemporary craft with a pioneer spirit! Just last month on instagram we watched this entrepreneur build an upcycled vending booth from old pallets, and have grown ever more impressed with her ingenuity and style. She’s going to be vending at San Fransisco Bazaar, Kate Wolf Music Festival, Oregon Country Fair, Pickathon, and North Country Fair in Arcata this year, so be sure to stop by her booth if you happen to find yourself at any of those events!
1″ Metallic Elastic Buckle Garters in red — adjustable enough to fit a great range of calves and thighs!
Impeccable quality and style aside, the fact that she chooses to use materials that would otherwise go to waste is very much in keeping with our own company’s agenda of minimizing our ecological footprint. Laura Lee started using upcycled materials when she was working for a designer in New York City, “We had 2 production houses in our building and I would witness how much fabric was thrown away, so I started pilfering the dumpsters and making things from the scrap fabric,” she explains. “Then, I went to New Orleans for 9 months after Katrina and helped organize a disaster relief kitchen and donation center. After a few months, I had to get creative again and started sewing in a blue tent with a pallet floor, using excess donated materials from the distribution center.”
The Metallic Elastic Buckle Garters in silver have a shine like no other! A perfect pairing of retro design, with futuristic materials!
While the leather used for the Revivall Clothing garters that we carry is upcycled, the hardware and elastic are new, and sourced from US based manufacturers. You might have noticed that all of our house brand items (DreaM Stockings, Dreamer Socks and Sock Dreams) are also sourced in the USA, so it should come as no surprise that we’re really into that part of Revivall’s ideology, too!
We think that Revivall Clothing’s garters perfectly encapsulate our love of combining the old with the new. After all, the challenges of gravity may be timeless, but luckily so are garters.
If you watched The View Thursday morning (today!), than this is old news for you. But if you happened to miss it, we have some BIG news. Are you sitting down dreamers? Because it is finally time to unveil our latest sock venture. Sock Dreams proudly presents (drum roll, please) Whoopi’s Socks! That’s right; Sock Dreams has teamed up with none other than the fun and fabulous sock-lover extraordinaire, Whoopi Goldberg. Together, we bring you three gorgeous styles, all designed, made & printed in the USA.
Whoopi loves gnomes as much as (and maybe a little more than) any of us; she has gnomes of many varieties in her garden at home. Our artist worked hard to capture Whoopi’s likeness as a nature-loving spirit, lounging among the foliage with her little foxy friends in the Whoopi Gnomes Midcalf.
The Boy Who Drew Cats is an old Japanese fairy tale that captured Whoopi’s imagination. In the early stages of designing socks, she told us the tale over the phone and it resonated with everyone here. In the story, a young boy is sent from his family farm to study to become a priest but is sent away for drawing cats everywhere—on scrolls, on the walls, on every blank space he could find. He eventually ends up at an abandoned temple where he again covers every available surface with his feline friends, and then, tired from travelling and drawing, goes to sleep in a cupboard. In the night he is awoken to the sounds of fearsome battle, and the next morning emerges from his cupboard to find a great goblin rat has been defeated… by his cat drawings come to life! His talent for drawing, which seemed like an idle waste of time to those around him, saved both himself and the nearby town from the goblin rat’s reign of terror. We think anyone who has been told their dream isn’t worth pursuing can identify with this story.
Here There Be Monsters takes inspiration from Whoopi’s love of old maps, specifically the Carta Marina by Olaus Magnus. Drawn in the early 16th century, it was the first more-or-less accurate map of the Nordic countries, and jump started a long history of Swedish cartography. Today it inspires young and old alike with its depictions of fearsome beasts and fanciful creatures. Because this map would have been purchased in black and white the map’s owner was free to color it as they desired, so we are offering two beautiful color schemes to choose from.
Pretty cool, right? The socks are available exclusively through us and come with the minimal 100% recycled packaging you’ve come to expect from Sock Dreams products. We hope that you are as delighted by these new designs as we are!
Zkano is the creation of second generation sock maker Gina Locklear. In 1991, Gina’s parents opened up their sock knitting mill in Fort Payne, AL at a time when a huge percentage of the country’s socks originated from there. These days, Emi-G Knitting (named after Gina and her sister) is one of only a few knitting mills left in the city.
When Gina grew up she merged her passion for environmentally sustainable living with the family trade to create socks that are beautiful and organic. Each aspect of sock creation is done on-site including design, knitting, seaming, and packaging. Zkano socks are “produced in small batches with certified organic cotton, low-impact dyes and minimal packaging to leave a light footprint while ensuring the highest quality fit and comfort,” exactly to Gina’s specifications. How Dreamy!
The Mara Over the Calf features fun stripes and color blocking, adding a unique look to any outfit!
