Today is the International Day of The Sock! But we’re keeping it national this year with a celebration of our made in the USA styles.

The International Day of The Sock is a day for rocking your favourite socks (even more than usual)! The socks we want to rock this time around are the ones made right here in the USA. Our collection of American made styles is full of fantastic delights from two dozen suppliers.

Our two house brands, DreaM Stockings and Dreamer Socks are made for us right here in the States, out of recycled and regenerated fibers. They’ve got some beautiful basics,

Why, did you know that from B.Ella we offer over forty USA-made styles? Only about a third of their styles we carry are made in Italy and the rest of these gorgeous, luxury offerings are home-grown.

There are so many more made in the USA offerings! Just join me after the jump for a quick list (and links and Advanced Searches for) of USA-made styles.

Garters are a great way to keep up socks, but they’re never as wild or fun as your socks can be, right? Not if they’re Snappy Garters!

We’ve carried Snappy Garters’ styles for a long time, beginning way back in 2004! We still carry these first styles, I love that they’re all along a spectrum, the Snappy Spike Garters all sharp and stabby, the Snappy Heart Garters hard but sweet and the Pom-Pom Garters so soft and fluffy.

• Snappy Spike Garters •
• Snappy Heart Garters •
• Pom-Pom Garters •

Unlike the other sock garters we carry, that fasten with buttons or hooks, the Snappy Garters attach with two snaps to keep them secure around your leg, with a little extra stretch if you need it. Except for the below the knee designed Snappy Monkey Sock Garters, all styles fit legs 19-22 inches, which makes them great for below and above the knee.

Another old favourite (possibly premiering around Portland Pride 2007) are the Snappy D-Ring Garters! Originally plain black elastic with nickel rings, we’ve just introduced a fancier version with brass hardware, that even comes on a gorgeous maroon!

More Snappy Garter gorgeousness after the jump!

I know one of my favourites are the Snappy Big Button Garters. Oversize decorative buttons adorn them and they’re terribly whimsical, perfect for adding a little playfulness to any outfit and perfect for dolly dress up. They come in nine varieties, but here’s a taste of all the colour!

But what about days that you want the fun of Snappy Garters, but with simpler decoration? We’ve even got a couple of styles with printed elastic. First are the brilliant Snappy Rainbow Garters that wrap your legs in a joyful spectrum. We brought these in for Portland Pride 2012 and we love them! There are also the Snappy Monkey Sock Garters that have sweet little monkey silhouettes and are the little sister of all the other Snappy Garters, fitting 12 inches to 16 inches around. They’re designed for just below the knee, though smaller legs can wear them just above.

• Snappy Rainbow Garters •
• Snappy Monkey Sock Garters •

The newest styles (that we’ve just added today!) are equally understated. Simple metal charms on black elastic make the Snappy Dragonfly Garters and the Snappy Fleur de Lis Garters delicately beautiful addition to your accessories.

We love Snappy Garters and the past eight years of fun ways to rock keeping your socks up have flown by! Have you tried Snappy Garters? Were you rocking a pair back when we first started carrying them?

Scrunch socks, loose socks, slouch socks! They’re all a little different but one thing is the same, they all rock that distinctive, slouchy look.

We recently learned a new descriptive term that we dig: ‘scrunchy socks’. Sharp eyes may have noticed that the ‘Loose Socks’ collection has been renamed to ‘Scrunchy Socks.’ When talking with our Tabbisocks sales representatives, they explained that the much-loved Super Loose were changing their name.

It turns out that though ‘Super Loose’ is a direct translation of the Japanese word for this style of sock, a more accurate translation is ‘Scrunchy.’ And it definitely seems more accurate! One of the things we love about this style is that you can just scrunch them down.

Is there a difference between ‘scrunching’ and ‘slouching’? Not really, though how we often tend to use the words is that ‘scrunch’ is actively pushing your socks down and ‘slouch’ is when a sock more naturally crumples a little lower. The effect is the same either way, soft folds above your ankles (or tops of your boots!).

The EG Smith Ribbed Bootsocks on the left need to be scrunched down, but the Bess Cashmere Slouch Rib Knee Socks on the right slouch on their own in the most delightful way!

In our Scrunchy Socks collection you’ll find two distinct schools of the scrunchy sock, ‘schoolgirl socks’ and ‘slouch socks.’ What’s the difference? Find out after the jump!

The schoolgirl sock look comes to us from Japan and, though it’s missing a lot of citations, Wikipedia’s entry on Loose Socks has the basic info. Around the 1990s it became popular for Japanese girls to pair long and loose socks with their uniform skirts, using sock glue to keep them up. Like a lot of fads, styles started to get extreme, with longer and longer socks, even up to two meters long (which is almost 80 inches!). We’ve got that two meters beat with our 100 Inch Super Ruched socks.

The look seeped into media and the silhouette of big, slouchy socks with a skirt is iconic even today. Our Harajuku Style Pinterest board has this great picture of schoolgirl socks that was found at Tokyo Fashion, which has even more pictures of loose socks in action!

Hmm, those socks look familiar! They could be the Harajuku Scrunchy Socks, or one of the longer versions, the Schoolgirl Long Socks or the Schoolgirl Extra Long socks!

But you don’t have to go as far as Japan to get good long socks and they don’t have to be white! Our Dream Stockings line has two great long and scrunchy sock options for you, the 40 inch Long Cuffable Scrunchables:

From left to right: Charcoal, Lilac, White

And the 50 inch Super Ms!

From left to right: Dark Red, Grey, Dusty Plum

Sock Dreams has offered loose socks since almost the beginning and we’ve pretty much always carried slouch socks. Just like the schoolgirl loose sock look, they showed up in the 1990s, plain ol’ bootsocks rising into the fashion sphere. EG Smith was THE name for bootsocks, with a 99% cotton sock and almost no elastic, super slouchy and with the perfect scrunch, “Love Eric” printed on the foot. If you remember the kind of socks Brenda wore on 90210, then you know exactly what kind of style I’m talking about.

Sadly, the machines that produced the socks wore down in about 2009, having made socks since the Civil War. But about a year later EG Smith introduced the Ribbed Bootsock, with a similar look, but more scrunch than slouch (they’re only 94% cotton). We love them even more than the original!

From left to right: Natural, Denim, White

Our Dream Stockings and Dreamer Socks lines have similar styles, so there are even more colours and slouch sock styles to choose from! Our Cotton Slouch Socks are a customer and Dreamer favourite, with the most colours of any line we produce.

From left to right: Bubblegum, Dusty Plum, Light Blue

The Acrylic Slouch Socks come in shocking bright colours, they’re so vibrant, like crayons!

From left to right: Hunter Green, Yellow, Purple

And there are more delicious, scrunchy socks just waiting for you to browse in our Scrunchy Socks collection! Are scrunchy socks your thing and if so, do you go schoolgirl or slouch?

Sock Dreams loves derby, especially our home team, the Rose City Rollers. And we have the socks to prove it!

Tomorrow evening is the Rose City Rollers’ season opener, with the first intra-league bouts of the 2012 Rose City Rollers home teams’ season. We’ve been supporting the league since 2006! Time has flown by on the fastest of skates.

This summer we had some socks made especially for us by Gumball Poodle, to show off how much we love the Rose City Rollers. You may have seen them for sale at a couple derby events, but now even folks who live far away and still call Portland home can show off their pride for their derby home team with I ♥ RCR knee highs!

The images for these socks were shot for us by the lovely Taylor B photography, who not only took some snaps of the I ♥ RCR knee highs, but got some fun shots of other derby favourite styles.

We saw the last of the old Rock Socks labels out the door not too long ago and just recently ushered in a bunch of new, made in the USA, styles from this wordy, nerdy brand (Geek, Naughty & Nice and Chocolate are the latest!). They’re one of our favourites, partially because we have so much fun with their backstock. Below I’ve got a couple snaps of our Gumball Poodle backstock boxes. I will admit that sometimes we put things in boxes together because they’re funny rather than because they’re more efficient.

‘Cause who doesn’t want some Wicked Whiskey this time of year?

Web designer extraordinaire Olivia has done it again with this month’s fabulous new theme for Halloween!

This theme is so sweet we may be tempted to keep it up past the end of the month and to celebrate the season of playing dress up, or just showing off our favorite autumn outfits, we’re adding new items for fall just as fast as we can (which, try as we might, never seems fast enough) including several new items for our ever growing Halloween section…

My personal favorite from this latest batch of Halloween goodies are the Candy Corn socks…
Based on our classic “striped knees” DreaM Stockings
*made exclusively for us in the USA using recycled cotton*

this version won’t be around long so if you love the bright colors grab a pair while you can.
…but worry not, we’re getting a darker version soon that should last us all the way til winter creeps in.

And when winter does creep in, me and my dogs are going to stay nice and cozy no matter what our crazy Portland weather throws at us!

The dreamiest sock dream come true!

I’ve written before about sock dreams coming true when a style we wish for happens or when a favourite sock comes back to us—but this may just be the dreamiest dream to come true yet!

Of course, I’ve got to tease a little.

It’s been five years since these DreaM Stockings debuted,

and a little over three since they were available in an OTK and a thigh high.

But it’s been almost two years since we’ve had them in stock. The yarn for these socks was discontinued and we’ve been on a hunt for a replacement ever since.

But a secret stash of the yarn has been found—enough to make a limited run of both OTK and thigh highs. We won’t have them forever and we’re still looking for a long-term supply of this yarn, but for a short time, this sock dream has come true.

Have you guessed what they are? Join us after the jump for the answer!

Yes! The Super Dreamy and O Dreamy socks are back! They’re only available in Hibiscus and Autumn, but the slubby, soft, beautiful marled socks are back for a limited time.

So if you loved the Super Dreamy socks, now is the time to get a pair!

And if the O Dreamy Stockings were something you always wanted but never got a pair of, grab some while you can!

Did you get a pair of these dreamy socks the first time around?

Fireworks, barbecuing and red white and blue! The Fourth of July is coming up and we’ve got some patriotic options for you.

Oh the stars and stripes! If your Fourth of July outfit needs a little more flair, we have three bold American flag options for you to rock.

• America Printed Trouser Socks •
• American Flag Midcalves •
• Old Glory Printed Trouser Socks •

There is also a brand new arm warmer style that would be a great layer when it gets chillier at night watching fireworks, the Patriotic Arm Warmer.

Of course, you can be patriotic more subtly, by wearing something made in the USA. Some of our favourite American-made styles after the jump!

Our DreaM Stockings styles are all made in the USA just for us and come in fun stripes, cool slinky rayon, little anklets and much more!

• Dreamy Knees •
• A Chevrons •
• O Rayons •

Of course, our Dreamer Socks are also made in the USA, and their super stretch means they fit more feet and legs!

• Dream Stalker Stripes •
• Acrylic Slouch Socks •
• Vertically Checkered OTKs •

The newly-returned Ashi Dashi are made in the USA right down to the ink on their labels! And socks like these are perfect for a summer barbecue:

• Ashi Dashi Meat Midcalf •
• Ashi Dashi Corn Crew •
• Ashi Dashi Strawberry Crew •

And there are so many more, because here at Sock Dreams, we believe in supporting local business and most of our suppliers make their styles in the USA. There’s a bunch, but I think I got them all! Each link leads to their category, where you can see all the styles each supplier offers.
