petticoat

Back when I first started working for Sock Dreams, I had a sock dream. Well, not actually a dream about socks, it was about petticoats! About the perfectly fluffy and bouncy Layered Tulle Petticoat, to be exact. If I’m remembering correctly, we’d recently got in the Flamingo version, which is a much more vibrant pink than the ballerina-soft Light Pink. That rich hue must have stuck in my head, because when I went to sleep that night I dreamt we’d received another new colour of the Layered Tulle—a rich turquoise version of the pale Light Blue! When I woke up I was so bummed that the colour wasn’t real. The bright joy of it faded as the day dawned.
I know that certain colours are hard for manufactures to get right, or to decide are worth doing. And some colours will just never be available in the yarns we need. So I thought fondly of my little dream petticoat and went about my business, enjoying all the other great options out there.
And then something wonderful happened, but I won’t tell until after the jump!

Because we’re a quirky bunch of open minded individuals here at Sock Dreams I decided to sponsor Pride this year. I thought, what better way to promote us to the community during the slow months of summer? I was thinking a banner, an ad, a mention and a really good feeling of contribution for me and Sock Dreams, but wait, there’s more! a booth at the NW Pride festival was included in the package, well, usually the mention of a booth makes us shudder, we’re kind of spoiled working out of our comfy little building safely tucked away from the masses here in the Moreland/Sellwood area, but not this time, no, we’re very excited to be out and meeting everyone this weekend. So if you happen to be in the Portland area and are coming down to Waterfront park to celebrate pride this year be sure to swing by and say hi and get yourself a pair of socks while you’re at it. Better yet, buy some socks for everyone your proud of! We’ll also have some stockings, leggings, garters, petticoats and two exclusive sock garters that we’re not selling on the site yet (Shelleopard made us some nifty little slave garters complete with D Rings and I have some lovely little green flowers on black elastic with the prettiest purple thread you ever did see). Of course we’re going to have just about every rainbowed style we carry with us too!

I’m not a dot lover. But it can’t always be about me and what I like can it?
So when Simone showed me these

my heart thumped for those of you who do love the dots.
Much to my surprise, when they arrived I actually liked them. Now for the bad part…

When stretched beyond 16.5 inches around the dots distort noticeably revealing what appear to be holes and loose threads. This is a pretty common thing for socks with patterns (the fuzzier the yarn the less noticeable this & many other sock flaws are).
I was able to rearrange the dots by running my hands over them a bit to make them rounder, it lessened the gap between the red & black. As long as you turn these inside out and wash them gently the threads should not unravel. This is all less noticeable on the black with white dots. The top few inches do not have spots and can be left up or folded down, they’ll stay up pretty well either way. They’ll be just over the knees on longer/larger legs and nearly thigh high on shorter thinner legs. The feet, like most Cronert feet, fit great. If you’re an 8.5/9 I’d go for the smaller size; 9.5 and up go for the larger sized.
The truth is that I love these!!!

Last year we ran out of our fav pedicoats from Leg Avenue and no matter how many I ordered they never sent any. Til now, though they’ve renamed them Layered Tulle Petticoat Not only have we restocked the best selling black, they sent the pink as it originally was, a nice, pretty, light pink . The neon they had replaced it with is listed as an option so maybe we’ll get them again too. Plus, they added a pretty light blue and a true bright red which we’ve stocked as well.
I’ve been adding images for days, lots of new stuff, new colors for stuff we already had and new images for stuff we’ve had for ages. Janey has been a great help in this area since she works with a few models including some who are plus sized. Soon Liz will be contributing images for the Dream Stockings as she is taking over responsibility for the ordering and management of that section. Much as I didn’t want to give it up after Alicia left us I just don’t have enough time to give it the attention it deserves.
The stockings above are the third and newest striped nylon stocking from Foot Traffic, black & grey, it’s a warm grey though, nearly brown. They also added a pin striped version and soon we’ll be adding both in leggings!
