For us, Chicago’s Comic and Entertainment Expo, came and went in a blast of frigid wind, a sprinkling of unseasonable snow, and a mad rush of pop culture enthusiasm. As you can imagine, we ran into a wild assortment of sock loving characters.
On Friday one of our first customers was Jillian in black O Basics, who solemnly swore that she was up to no good. Once Saturday hit, the place was hopping. That’s when Liz, a.k.a Ramona Flowers, roller bladed into our dreams wearing seafoam M45’s and Super Stripes. Finally, Jess and Hanna, or rather Harley and Ivy, stopped by to show off the socks they had purchased from us the day before. Jess is sporting a convention exclusive variety of our M45’s and Hanna has on our Vertical Cotton OTK’s.
Sunday was the final day of C2E2, and before the show had even officially opened we were visited by Anthony, a true Renaissance man in purple and sherbert O Basics. Later in the day, we had the opportunity to catch Tosha, an exceptional Vulpix Pokemon in another pair of sherbert O Basics. We also caught Dustin doing a fine impersonation of Archer ogling Lana, portrayed by Lindsey, who’s ever popular O Basics were in a lilac shade.
At 5pm the show was over, and we packed our few remaining socks and sent them home. But don’t you worry, we will be bringing them and many other with us to Denver Comic Con over Memorial Day Weekend. If you’re in the area, and you’ve got a great cosplay that makes use of our products, be sure to stop and let us snap a photo and we may feature you in our next post convention write up.
If you have an amazing cosplay featuring Sock Dreams socks or accessories, but you will not be at any of the events we will be visiting, we’d love it if you would email us a photo. Anyone who emails a valid cosplay photo to firstname.lastname@example.org will receive a special coupon code that can be used on their next purchase. All cosplay photos collected from now until October 23rd will also be held in consideration for our new annual Cosplay contest. Rules and prizes will be announced soon!
In our second edition of our Dreamer Dress Up competition we saw a lot of ingenuity in the way our dreamers took warm weather clothes and changed them into cold weather outfits with Sock Dreams socks and accessories. Here is a peak at our ten favorites, and what they had to say about their outfits.
These first two finalists were very nearly winners. We loved Jennifer’s bright colors during this sometimes drab season. Not only did she turn a summer party dress into a great fall outfit, but she kept a little hint of sunshine with her Extraordinary Radiant Rainbows. Lindsay’s autumn color choices were a big hit here at Sock Dreams. She kept warm in her spring mini dress with Signature Cotton Tights, O Dreamy Stockings (in a gorgeous color that we, unfortunately, no longer carry), and Harajuku Arm Warmers.
Our next set of finalists had fun with indoor shots. Han had this to say about her outfit, “I love layers and was laying around the house, desperately not wanting to put on outdoor clothes to go get food when the idea struck me: don’t change the leggings and tank you are wearing–just throw more stuff on top! This was the result.” She knocked it out of the park with Chevron Sleeves and Super Long Ribbed Leg Warmers. Alana was one of our first entries. She made her lace summer dress fall-ready with a long sleeved t-shirt and Long Cuffable Scrunchable Socks. We loved what Whitney had to say about her outfit. “From keeping cool *eating ice cream* to staying cozy *dressed like a sundae*! I bundled up with layered long sleeves & hopped into Sock Dreams’ Neapolitan Stripes to keep my legs cozy.”
Jessica was used to staying warm in Alabama, when a cold wet spell hit. She couldn’t walk her dog in her usual clothing. Her solution? Extraordinary Striped Thigh Highs. Megan says, “Sweet lolita pastels are more commonly associated with Spring, but I like to be able to wear my whole lolita wardrobe year round! ” She used our Blue Knees in Pink to coordinate and keep her legs from getting chilled.
And here are our winners! Holly is loving the autumn in her Classic Tie Dyed Striped Knees and Basic Fingerless Gloves. Phoebe is looking cool while staying warm with her Chevron Sleeves and Floral Tights. Candis took her babies Magnolia and Camellia out to enjoy their first snow in her Tie-dye Bamboo OTKs and Bamboo Cable Tights. She kept their tiny toes warm with Picnic Plaid Baby Socks.
All of our finalists received a 10% off coupon code, and our three winners each received a $30 gift code. If you want a chance to win make sure you enter next month’s competition. The theme is “Snow Day!” Show us how you bundle up for a wild winter. Click here for a complete set of rules and instructions on how to enter. Last month we announced our new monthly contest, Dreamer Dress Up. Our first challenge to you was to create a Halloween costume which featured some of our socks, or accessories. We had a lot of amazing entries. They were so good, in fact, that we had to share our ten finalists with all of you!
These first three finalists are looking spectacular in shades of red. Malia McCollister, a former ballet dancer, used the Puffy Chiffon Mini Petticoat to give her Firebird costume the right flare. Elizabeth Hedrick used tons of layers to make her pirate queen costume come alive, including a Mid-Length Petticoat, Ruffle Striped OTKs, and Flapper Buttoned Sock Garters. Yoko Mizuhara, our next finalist, modified her Solid Opaque Thigh Highs for her Bombshell Harley Quinn costume, and is a huge advocate of It Stays! Body Adhesive.
Our next two finalists are rocking the steam-punk look. Brianna Clarke is ready for a Victorian Air Ship ride in her Solid Over the Knee Stockings and her Extra Long Simply Adjustable Sock Garters. Amy Robinson made some creative edits to her Solid Opaque Thigh Highs, which she keeps held high with her Double Grip Clips.
We loved Cindy Dulay’s portrayal of Mary Sanderson, the middle sister from the movie Hocus Pocus. She is using the plus sized Striped Over the Knee stockings to keep her witchy legs warm. And speaking of needing to stay warm, our next entrant, known only as Pixi Faery, is staying snuggley by layering rust colored Long Cuffable Scrunchable Socks and Dark Brown Knees.
And now for our three winners, who will each receive a $30 Sock Dreams Gift Card!
In her portrayal of the Queen of the Rainbow Goblins, Joyce Churchia created her own sleeves using Rainbow Knee High socks and Cotton Overknees, and completed her outfit with Vertical Rainbow Fishnet Tights. Kathleen Weaver is clearly excited about her Peter Pan costume, and so were we! She is wearing the ever popular Long Cuffable Scrunchable Socks in olive. Our final winner, and perhaps our favorite, is Sara Bielaczyc. How adorable is she in her purple Chevron Sleeves and green and plum Super Stripe Knee Highs?
We want to congratulate all of our finalists. And to do that, we decided to throw in a bonus. We are giving each of them 10% off their next purchase! Feeling a bit jealous? As business starts to really pick up for the fall season, we’ve decided it’s about time we started a new tradition around here. To sum it up, we’re now taking submissions for next month’s contest, with a theme of Halloween costumes! Please read the following rules; entries that do not follow these cannot be considered.
• Photos are due October 13th and can be emailed to email@example.com; please let us know which products you used, and tell us a little about your costume, including which Sock Dreams product is featured!
• Your costume must feature socks, tights, and/or accessories purchased from Sock Dreams, and they must be clearly visible as part of the costume.
• Photos must be taken for our contest; no photos from past years or photos submitted to other contests.
• Please keep your costume work-safe and free of any offensive subject matter.
