"One Size" and "Plus" can be different in more than sizing! We’ll break down the style and size differences of the Leg Avenue Striped Tights.

Pretty much the go-to for bright striped tights, the Leg Avenue Striped Tights are a great, budget-friendly way to sass up your derby uniform, going out clothes, or every day wardrobe. Though most of the colours are only offered in a “one size fits most” that fits waists up 35 inches around (with a couple more inches stretch in the hips), four colours come in two more sizes with an amazing range of fit. The Black/Purple, Black/White, White/Red and Black/Red are also available in a “1x-2x” and a “3x-4x”.

You may notice in the image below that the red is a little different between sizes. The “one size” is more of a tomato red and the 1x-2x is more of a lipstick red. The other colours of the 1x-2x and 3x-4x aren’t as different when compared to their “one size” versions.

There are some other differences between the “one size” and the “plus” sizes. Though it isn’t dependable that the stripes go all the way up to the waistband on the one size (which is why we love when you drop us a line to ask if the current batch do), both the 1x-2x and the 3x-4x sizes always have stripes that go all the way up.

“One size” on top, the 1x-2x below

And that’s true for the other end too. The stripes go all the way to the toes on the 1x-2x and 3x-4x.

You’ll notice that the one size legs are longer than the plus size in the image below. Don’t fret! There is some magic stretch in the plus sizes of the Leg Avenue Striped Tights. If you have a longer inseam and any curves, the 1x-2x size may be a better option. Our tester with a 32 inch inseam found that the legs of the “one size” just fit—they maxed out the stretch of the “one size”, both hips and inseam.

More comparisons of the Leg Avenue Striped Tights sizes after the jump!

Other than using some magical, stretchy fabric for the 1x-2x and the 3x-4x, Leg Avenue has also designed the larger sizes with a rear panel. Instead of one seam in the back, there are two, giving you lots more room for stretch and curves. One of our testers loved that the optical illusion of how the stripes met up gave her better curves in the back.

1x-2x on the left, “one size” on the right

Guys looking for striped tights may do what one of our testers tried on accident—he found that putting on the tights with the double seam in the front adds a little more room and comfort where necessary. One thing to keep in mind, no matter how you wear them, the rear panel also acts as a gusset, and is slightly visible on the inner leg, so folks wearing tanga shorts and tap pants with these tights should keep that in mind.

Okay, now for the straight numbers for stretch! Remember, the more something stretches around, the less they can stretch up, so longer legs with curves need to keep that in mind. We stretched the waist/hip area and inside the leg, here’s what we found:

The “one size” stretches to 35 inches or so in the waist, with a little more stretch in the hip. The leg circumference stretches to 22inches and we don’t recommend them for folks with longer inseams than 31 inches who are maxing the stretch for the waist and leg.

The 1x-2x stretch to 57 inches in the waist & hip area and have a 30 inch stretch in the leg circumference. From our experience they don’t ride down too badly when the waist is stretched to the higher end of their range, though the rise does shorten (often, something has the stretch, but then become hip-huggers).

The 3x-4x stretch to about 64 inches in the waist & hip area and 36 inches of stretch in the leg circumference. If your size range fits the 1x-2x more and you’d like a more opaque tight, the 3x-4x will fit you just fine, from our testing.

Have you tried the Leg Avenue Striped Tights? What size do you like the most?

Valentine’s day has come and gone and its frilly decorations make me wish for warmer weather, so I can rock lighter, lacier styles.

I will say this for Valentines day, I like seeing all the lacy decorations. I’m not a very girly person, but I have one heck of a soft spot for lacy bits and stockings that don’t keep you warm. It’s not just me that’s feeling frilly and fancy, earlier this winter Style.com had an article (and slideshow) about “elaborate hose” showing up more often on the runway and on celebrities.

images above from Style.com, but similar styles are:

This, as any dedicated sock fan knows, is just the rest of the world catching up! What the popularity of fancy tights means is that our suppliers are offering more options and we have more great styles to choose from!

Of course, I am not a runway model or a celebrity that gets driven around everywhere. I have to deal with the still-too-cold-for-my-taste weather of February. I’m guessing you do too, so remember, a gorgeous lace or net style is just as stunning (if not more so) layered over something like the Color Tights or the Foot Traffic Combed Cotton Tights.

Let’s start off with all the amazing options from Foot Traffic. They offer some great textured tights, most with plus size options and some of them come in white even!

More lovely, lacy options after the jump!

Both of these stunning styles I know several of you are already rocking. They’re some of our most popular Leg Avenue lacy tights (ooh, and keep an eye on our What’s New page throughout the year for more great openwork and lace styles from Leg Avenue).

Lace and net aren’t the only ways to rock some gorgeous openwork. There are several styles that our suppliers call “crochet” (which aren’t crochet, because socks are knit!) or that mimic the look of crochet styles that are just as lovely.

• Patricia Merino Crochet Tights •

Of course, these are all tights. In our Lace collection we have so many more options, from just a touch of lace to entire stockings, thigh highs to anklets.

• Open Crochet Crew •

Every time the sun breaks through the clouds I start planning what socks I’m going to wear as soon as it’s warm enough. Hopefully combining fancy-pants openwork with warmer layers will keep me satiated until spring. Are you layering lace in these last days of winter?

We thought our beloved O Marled Dream Stockings were gone, but we have been blessed with lots of new colors, and just in time for fall weather to hit us

after thinking one of our favorite Dream Stockings styles was gone for good we have been blessed with lots of new colors of O Marled socks… and just in time for fall weather to start hitting us with chilly evenings and even chillier mornings.

These deliciously thick, ribbed socks stretch to an accommodating 23 inches around at the tops while still fitting those of us with scrawny calves… a true “Dream” stocking if there ever was one!
My inseam is about 30 inches and my thighs are 19 inches around so these come pretty close to the tops of my thighs if I pull them all the way up, but my favorite way to wear them is thickly cuffed just above my knees. Larger/longer legs will have varying results, but as seen in the image for charcoal, as worn by Trina, these can still be a great OTK…
.
The biggest change with this new batch is that we decided to only do one foot size which we are calling large because it is larger [in the feet] than the small hunter we have leftover from the previous batches, but don’t worry, these fit a shoe size 7 right up to women’s 10 pretty well and we will probably switch that large to “one size” when those hunters are gone. I also think these itch a little more before being washed a few times, which we think is due to the marled bits, I solved it by wearing them over leggings, but really it just took washing them to soften them up.

Ember is my favorite color of these right now, and as I sit here telling you why I love them so much I am tempted to wear them through a second day because I don’t want to take them off!

We had a super hard time naming these because they really are so amazing that any words we thought of either fell short or tipped the scale at unbelievable…
But these truly are extraordinary. So, after much thought, we went with it!
What makes them so extraordinary? they absolutely fit each and every one of us and then some.

Our smaller feet fit, our largest guys feet fit, then they not only go over our knees they did it without rolling or denting, surprising us all. All that and they formed nicely around our ankles, went with our cutest shoes and stayed up pretty well for something that doesn’t squeeze into our thighs.
So this is a new direction for our socks, still made in the US (just for us, you will not find these anywhere else) in solids & stripes with lots more variations in the works.
…and since it has taken far more years to come up with a sock that truly fits us all, we’re pretty darned proud and will be praising these far and wide with our various reviews in the days to come.

This is the first of a new line of Dreamer Socks, but will not be the last!

O for Over-the-knee and we have a fabulous new one available now...

O for Over-the-knee… that area that can create so much havoc in the sock world.
Depending on both width & height (of both the socks AND your legs, never mind stretch of said socks) an OTK can end up fitting anywhere from just below the knees to right up around your thighs. Why, we even find that can differ from one color or batch to the next of the very same style (it can be enough to drive sock sellers mad!) but we love them and continue to pursue ever better OTK Socks and our Dream Stockings classic is the O Basic.

Basic because it is a basic cotton sock that goes over your knees, most of your knees that is. This line evolved into many variations that are among our all time favorite socks: O Chevrons (a style we see copied every where now) O Dreamies (my alltime fav …we WILL find a replacement that lives up to the dream!), O Lovelies (crochet-like, all I could think when I first saw them was how lovely they are), O Marled (thick & scrumptious & sure to keep coming back), O Pastels (now merged with our O Basics), O Yummies (deliciously textured, terribly missed), O Tie Dyed (fantastically tie-dyed basics, each and every one is unique), O Woolies (oh so warm, more coming this fall), and now… O Rayons!

Made just for us, just like the rest of our Dream Stockings, by a small family run mill in the USA. These are silky soft in shimmery, brilliant colors (hoping more colors are coming too!). The stretch is great, they came up over all our knees, and look good worn high or scrunched down. I barely want to take mine off, they are so comfy! I used to fear rayon clothing because it always needed to be dry cleaned. But not these! I threw them in the wash with my sheets in warm water, followed by a tumble in the warm dryer and they still fit and look fabulous!

Sock Inspector Lola fears there won’t be enough to go around, but we have plenty, for now…

Dearest Sweet Marcel,
I love your socks so very much!
I love them over my knees while I dream of tea in the conservatory at dawn
and I love them over my friends knees while we giggle with the dogs at noon…

All my friends love you for being so easy to get along with, in fact, I think my larger friends love you the most because your socks stay up so well on them, I often need to pull them back up now & again or use garters, not that I mind, I find it adds to the charm that is Sweet Marcel. I think we’re going to very good friends.
Love & warm toes…
always,

Reviewed by Trina:

Before a couple of years ago I had all but given up on wearing tights. Even queen size hose were pretty iffy, unless I was looking for something that barely fit my thighs, bagged out at my ankles and feet, but could be pulled up to my armpits. I am near the smaller end of the plus size spectrum, about a size 16-18, but still there just aren’t a lot of options out there. Then Niq asked me to try the Foot Traffic Combed Cotton tights. I was skeptical, but I obliged. They fit, actually fit, curves, thighs, tush and all, and did not end up being an almost body suit! I was soooooo excited.
Then came word that we were going to be able to order a plus size version.
OVER THE MOON! Because even though the regular size is amazing, I was almost maxing out the stretch, the waist band rolled a bit, and the thighs did tend to wear out faster than I hoped.

I am 5’6.5”, 225lbs, 31-32 inch inseam,
hips 49in, 29in thigh, 19in calf, size 8.5 shoe.

So now we have them, and they fit me pretty dang good. They have more room in the waist than the regular size helping the waistband lay nice and flat.

Foot Traffic seems to have reinforced the weave from waist to about mid thigh and I’m thinking that will make them last longer. They are still nice and soft and stretchy. They fit my size and shape quite well. I would guess that a size or two above me would do well with them too depending on your shape and leg length.

The leggings fit me a bit differently than the tights. The leggings seem to me a bit smaller, not a ton, but a bit. The plus size legging also has the reinforced thigh and panty area as the tights but here it seems to effect the sideways stretch some and cause a slight dent in my thigh. But the waist band is great on these as well.

Charcoal is one of my favorite colors and am already planning out some nice fall skirt, sock, and legging/tights combos. I can’t wait for even more colors!

In my humble opinion, they are must for ice cream (sprinkle to ice cream ratio need be quite high of course.. “a little ice cream with your sprinkles?”(I’ve actually been asked this)). Sprinkles are the perfect topping clinging to the sky high frosting on my favorite Magnolia cupcakes (as our Sock Goddess can attest). They are an amazing treat in pudding, delicious on applesauce, decorative in yogurt, festive on cake, and super special on or in cookies, pancakes, etc… I could go on for days with ways to enjoy them (and yes… I have eaten them plain by the spoonful). So it seems only natural then that when Sock Dreams made a sock with sprinkles on top, that I’d find them super yummy too… And I do!

This has been my absolute favorite pair of socks since they arrived as a sample pair a couple of years ago. Knowing you’d all want them in thigh highs we started ordering them. And while I love those too, these have remained my one truly dreamiest sock, just over my knees, often hanging out just under them. They get softer and softer every time I pull them out of the dryer.
Now this great length is here for everyone to enjoy.
Many of the days since they arrived you can find at least a couple of pairs being worn around Sock Dreams so it seems they are well loved by many already.

I was super happy when the timing worked out perfectly for taking them up on my little sock getaway in Seattle with Raubynn last weekend…

We had lots of fun running around town taking pictures in our socks.

Surely some people thought us mad

I was mesmerized by the hibiscus, such pretty colors!

When I came home I found out the last couple of colors were in so I put them on

and climbed my favorite tree…

We also got this new color that we happily ordered in both lengths…

some said they looked like patina, some preferred antique. In honor of Amanda officially taking over the Dream Stocking section I gave her the final say…
antique it is, and gorgeous too!
~~~{:::=:::}~~~
I nearly forgot to add this one from before my trip…
These are indeed dreamy as a knee high on fuller legs!
They haven’t been the easiest item to find…
at long last we have secured a source for classic sock garters!
with stripes & without stripes
Thanks to my determined crew we’ve received, tested, photographed & labeled a slew of these for you and will be adding variations in the future (more colors and hardware options including clips and faux-leather!!!).
We even made one a few inches longer in case you have extra large calves or want to wear them at your thighs…
Lots more Dreamy news to come!
