While we hope that every sock sold gets lots of love, we understand that sometimes it just doesn’t work out. Maybe those sparkly tights don’t match the dress you were planning to pair them with or those legwarmers arrived and they don’t fit? Perhaps you were lucky enough to be gifted some novelty crews but you’ve really been eyeing our selection of bootsocks? Whatever the reason may be, we’re here to help guide you through the returns process and let you know what your options are!
If the item in question hasn’t been actively worn or washed, it is eligible to be returned to us within 6 weeks from the purchase date. While we pride ourselves on offering free shipping where we can, we do not offer paid postage on returns. As you are responsible for shipping the return, it might be a good idea to snag a tracking number from the Post Office because we cannot offer credit for items we don’t receive. Please include a completed Return Authorization Form with your returned item; they are printed on the back of every invoice we ship out and they are also available on our Returns Information page. Once you have filled out the form, simply mail it with the socks you wish to return to:
Sock Dreams: Attn. Returns Dept.
Order # __________
7980 SE 17th Avenue
Portland, OR 97202
The type of reimbursement you qualify for depends on the condition of the socks you return:
If the item has not been opened or tried on (tags haven’t been removed/packaging is still intact), it can be returned for a refund or store credit. Items that have never had the tags removed and have intact packaging will be considered “P” as noted on the Return Authorization Form for “Packaged” and considered eligible for reimbursement in either form.
A new caveat to our returns policy this year: we are now accepting tights that have been tried on for reimbursement in the form of store credit. As long as they haven’t been actively worn or washed, they can be tried on and returned to us for a store credit. Leggings and tights that have had the tags removed or have been removed from their packaging will be considered “O” as noted on the Return Authorization Form for “Opened” and will only be considered eligible for a store credit.
Any socks, gloves, legwarmers, petticoats, or other accessories from our site that have been tried on can be returned to us for a store credit. This policy stands for all the items described above except for those from our house brands, as explained below.
Dream Stockings/Dreamer Socks
Our house brands, Dreamer Socks and Dream Stockings, are made in the USA from recycled cotton and we think they’re pretty great. So great, they can be returned to us for a refund or store credit even if they’ve been tried on, as long as they haven’t been actively worn or washed. If you’re not sure if the item you purchased is from one of our house brands, you can recognize them by the designated “DS” or “SD” in the beginning of their part code from your invoice.
Unfortunately, in order to speed up the returns process for our customers and eliminate some frustrations due to out-of-stock, back-ordered, or discontinued items, we no longer issue direct exchanges for returns. If you haven’t removed the item from its packaging and you need the item right away, we recommend purchasing it now, and requesting a refund for your return. If your item has been tried on, you can request store credit, and purchase the new item after we’ve emailed you with the code for your credit.
Returning a gift?
If you are returning a gift you probably won’t be interested in a refund, as we can only reimburse the purchaser’s account. If you do not have the original invoice, please include the gift-giver’s full name on the Return Authorization Form so that we can associate your return with the corresponding order. Additionally, you’ll want to enclose your email address so that we can email you the store credit code once your return has been processed and completed.
Returning to the shop?
If you live in the Portland area and would like to return your item back to our shop location, the wonderful Shop Dreamers will be there to assist you every day from 11 am – 6 pm. Please note that our shop is unable to issue refunds for online orders in-store. They can, however, process your return for store credit that you can then use in the shop.
Wrong or Missing Item?
Maybe your item arrived and there appears to be a hole or a pair of tights arrived in the wrong size? Perhaps a pair of socks is missing from your order, altogether? In case any of these were to happen, please contact us right away! We will replace the defective or incorrect socks and send you a postage paid return mailer to send back the defective or wrong items. Please note that defective or wrong item claims need to be reported to us within seven days of receipt so that we can best resolve the issue for you.
Once your return has been processed and completed, we’ll send you a confirmation email. Please bear in mind that January is a very busy month for returns; while we do our best to ensure each one is completed in a timely manner, processing can take 4-6 weeks this time of year. We appreciate your patience and thank you in advance! Our lovely Customer Service Department is available to answer any and all questions you may have via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or telephone (888.717.6257). Cheers to bringing in the New Year with new socks!
Sock Dreams has been shipping cozy, soft goodness nationwide and overseas for over 15 years, but the warmest moments have been grounded in the pleasure of providing that goodness to our local community. We firmly believe that something beautiful happens when people come together to strengthen the community in solidarity. Today, we’re sharing some of the local organizations we’ve had the joy of combining efforts with this year. We reserve a deep respect for their initiative and dedication, which is key to building solid relationships within our neighborhood. When giving back this season, please keep these and other non-profits in your area in mind.
Bicycle Transportation Alliance:
Proudly promoting bicycling safety education since 1990, this group works to improve bicycling conditions in Portland. Their work includes sharing information on the rights and responsibilities of bicyclists, providing resources for free legal clinics and lobbying to ensure bicycling remains convenient and accessible in our neighborhoods. We’re proud to be a business member and (just in case you were considering joining the movement, yourself) offer a special in-store promotional offer to members.
An online charity to provide materials for prospective projects posted by public school teachers, Donors Choose is one of the easiest ways to give back to youth in your area. Sock Dreams has been proud to sponsor several projects listed by teachers in the Portland area. Below we have a few photos courtesy of Mr. Bund & Mrs. York of their classes enjoying the materials purchased!
Potluck in the Park:
Volunteers have been serving free, hot meals in downtown Portland every Sunday since 1991, using food donations gathered on a weekly basis. On Christmas Day, a full turkey dinner is served to over 1,000 people including music provided by local musicians, complimentary stockings, a visit from Santa, and cellphones that are provided for a free call to family and friends. The selfless contributions these volunteers make are the very reason we were happy to send out 500 pairs of socks this year to help them spread the giving spirit.
In addition to operating the largest museum-based outdoor science education program in the country, OMSI is one of the top science centers in the nation. They’ve been providing community outreach programs that bring education opportunities to schools in every Oregon county, which is just one of the many reasons we love their dedication to the field.
The largest anti-sexual violence organization in the nation has successfully created and operated two hotlines for providing survivors of abuse free, confidential services. Recovery information as well as sexual violence prevention education are provided through upfront commentary within colleges, local communities, and various media outlets. These endeavors are in addition to their numerous campaigns launched in effort to improve public policy. We’re proud to say that, through the end of the year, we will be donating a portion of our proceeds from our Whoopi Socks line to RAINN.
A local publication that delivers in-depth news on social and economical justice issues, Street Roots creates job opportunities for those experiencing homelessness and poverty. In addition to publishing a newspaper produced and distributed by these vendors all over Portland, they also produce resource guides and offer advocacy efforts for those facing homelessness and poverty. It was an honor to send 500 pairs of socks to this group in a small attempt to show their vendors how much we appreciate their hard work.
This organization is a support network for women of all ages, battling all kinds of cancers. This network is spread nationwide via Pretty Packages, which are sent out to cheer up women fighting cancer and include beauty products, scarves, a journal, and other feelgood items. Initially, we designed and donated the Fighting Pretty Striped Crews for their packages; however, we liked them so much we started carrying them online and contribute 20% of their sales to Fighting Pretty.
Sock Dreams holds these and other programs like them in high regard for identifying needs within our community and taking the initiative to keep our city healthy and thriving. For even more nonprofit inspiration, please see our Giving Back page where we list numerous other organizations we’ve worked with over the years. Our products keep our toes warm and our faces smiling and it means a lot to us to pass those smiles along to others. As family and friends come together this season, we hope you spread the giving spirit in your own way.

Holy moly, not only does this year make it three entire years we’ve been at Indigo HQ, but our brick-and-mortar shop has been in Sellwood exactly twice as long! Six years ago we got our little shop in Sellwood, setting in motion the luck that brought us to a new HQ and stockroom space just a few blocks away.
In all that time we’ve really settled into this little area, finding places to go for photoshoots, like the amusement park, where we commandeered a carousel to shoot some stripes:
Or our the dreamy gelato cart that shows up in the summer behind our shop:
Last year I talked about the cool places we were finding in the neighbourhood to shoot socks and, in general, several awesome new things have happened to help our product photos. Since we mostly rely on Dreamers as models, we have to find places nearby (so we don’t totally disrupt the workday).
That’s what made one of the newest things so great! There’s been lots of construction doings at Westmoreland park the past couple of years and they finally finished! Improving the water space for birds and fish, adding awesome play areas for the community and so much more, it’s become a favourite place to get the perfect sock shot! The placid pond (with duck in blurry background) and rad rockpile for adventurous climbing were just what we needed as backdrops for the Here There Be Monsters Midcalves!
The park is actually a healthy walk away and we don’t always have time to trek out there. It can make it difficult to keep things interesting, visually and for model and photographer, when you’re using the same space over and over. Luckily (or not?), when I needed a background to make the Rhinestone Starlight Knee Highs really pop, our parking lot helped out by bursting and sagging in a way that looked like a barren moonscape. It’s patched now though, because parking on the moon is a pain.
It’s not just finding new places to shoot, sometimes we need new feet. Our Dreamers rock and are awesome models, but there are only so many of us and that means there are only so many body types and fit experiences for testing styles.
Thanks to our Tumblr, we were able to put out the call to some awesome folks near us to come and model (and test!) some new products. Having our HQ in a place with good spots to go shoot made it all the more fun and easy (being in the heart of spring with the best petal-fall ever was a plus!) to work with these gorgeous folks!
We don’t always have to look outside HQ to find new models! Two pairs of little feet who accompany their mom to HQ are growing up into pretty amazing people who are super good at sitting still, even if the oldest is three. Yup, the biggest of our little feet came around not too shortly before we moved to Indigo HQ!
There’s one more change at Indigo HQ that I haven’t taken enough advantage of and that’s the little photo studio corner that has been set up inside. I did find it to be the perfect background for the dramatic Sheer Woven Diamond Illusion Tights, but with all this nice weather nowadays I’m taking outdoors while I can get it.
Three whole years at Indigo HQ and twice that at the Sellwood Shop! How time flies when you’re dreaming of socks!
We had a great time at our last event, Denver Comic Con. There were over 100,000 nerdy enthusiasts in attendance over the weekend. We got to meet thousands of amazing people and made quite a few new Sock Dreams fans. We can’t wait to get back there next year.
Our next event is taking place right in our own home town. We will be vending at Pride Northwest! It will take place at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in downtown Portland, Oregon from noon to 6pm on June 13th and 14th. It was listed on newnownext.com as #1 on their list of “10 pride festivals you’ve never been to but should.” With Governor Kate Brown as Grand Marshall of the pride parade, it should be quite an event!
If you need some help showing off your pride we will have plenty of rainbow socks, as well as many others, at booth P-5. We’ll be on the main promenade, close to the Morrison side of the sound stage. Martha Wash of “It’s Raining Men” fame, will be headlining on the stage, so we’ll be having a lot of fun at our booth. We’ll also be right next to the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus, so you know it will be a blast!
As always our DreaM Stockings and Dreamer Socks will be marked down from our web prices, so stop by to stock up on your favorites.
