As most of you Socks Dreams fans may or may not know, we are a big supporter of local charities and events. But we always find it doubly rewarding to be able to be an active participant in raising money and awareness for a great cause. This Saturday, August 24th, from 12-3pm, we will be hosting a fundraising event for a wonderful shelter called Family Dogs New Life, at our brick and mortar store.
A few of the dogs who work at Socks Dreams are rescue or shelter dogs, so we decided that we wanted to support a local animal shelter that cared about matching their animals with the right people. We did some research and found Family Dogs New Life just down the way from our own neighborhood.

We had the opportunity to visit the shelter to take a look at the facilities, meet the operators, and see some cute dogs! We were impressed with the warmth and dedication of the volunteers who keep up the daily operations. They run a tight ship, with the safety and comfort of their dogs as the first priority. Like any non-profit animal rescue, it takes a lot of time, money, and love to run, and we are so very pleased to lend a paw!
If you would like to help out Family Dogs New Life too, you can sponsor them, from anywhere in the country at their web site
If you live in the Portland area, come by our shop and see these two beautiful dogs, Hefner and Stella, that are available for adoption!

Regardless of whether is with your time or your money, we encourage all of our fans to support a local cause that is dear to your heart. Be it animals, kids, or just someone who needs a leg up; helping others is the most rewarding.
Wow. Last June we were finishing up plans to say goodbye to our old headquarters. And a month later we were at our new HQ. Even though it’s just been a year, it feels like we’ve been in this pretty purple building always!
We’ve been spending the last year making this place our own (in between serious sock business, of course). Even though a lot of it has been arranging, rearranging and then re-rearranging to find the best way to fit things (if you’ve ever made a big move, you know the complicated dance we mean!), lots of fancier touches have been put in place to make us feel at home.
Our conference room is now super slick, with old sock blocking forms kickin’ it on the wall. There’s even a big, beautiful whiteboard where all those great sock graphs get cooked up.
The lovely folks of Customer Service re-painted their department, and the one bazillion teal and off-white paint chips we all looked at were totally worth it! Though, I am starting to suspect they were purposefully trying to match this Swashbuckler’s Ball poster. . .
One of the newest and most fun additions to our space is a decorated break area. One of our pretty transit ads decorates the wall behind the new couch.
Maybe you’ve noticed our new couch in pictures already! Or, if you follow Niq on Instagram, you’ve noticed it a couple of times.
Just like at our old place, bits and pieces of where we are sneak into our product pictures. I’m personally in love with the purple of the outside of the building and love putting other purples against it, like in this shot for the Leg Avenue Striped Tights.
We have a big bay door by our break area, and it often becomes an impromptu stage for pictures.
But I think the thing we’re most in love with shooting on, by and around right now is our new, velvety, leopard-print couch and gorgeous hand-painted floor in the break area! Niq made great use of the floor in the shots for the new Tie Dye Ripple OTKs.
And I was like, “who says plaid and animal print don’t go together?!” when I got the pictures of the Plaid Printed Tights.
Clearly, we’re loving our new place! And we couldn’t have made this move or been so happy about it without the support of wonderful customers like you! You folks just make our day and keep on making it. ♥
As I sit here in the Sock Dreams HQ making an order for this weekend’s event (Gear Con, which takes place at the Portland DoubleTree Hotel, July 5th-7th), I ponder this question: what is a Steampunk?
The simple answer is that Steampunk is a sub genre of Science Fiction that is heavily inspired by the Victorian age of England and the Industrial Revolution. Think Jules Verne, Robert Lewis Stevenson, H.G. Wells, H.P. Lovecraft and a pinch of Sir Aurthur Conan Doyle. A more complicated answer is that it’s an idea of an alternative time period that is based on science playing a larger role in the Victorian age; a fantastical world where men and women walk around in the lovely clothes of the period, with wondrous devices made of brass, that work with intricate gears and other moving parts.
The fashion is an enormous part of this culture: corsets, bustles, hats, boots, large skirts, ascots, waist coats, and of course socks, stockings, and garters. We will be attending Gear Con this weekend with another Sellwood neighborhood shop, Wells and Verne. While they’re decking folks out with custom suits and dresses, we will be adorning feet with all the classiest bits and bobs!
We have an entire category on our website called Victoriana, just for your Steampunk needs! This category is filled with lovely lacy things, dapper socks, and sturdy garters. We will be bringing many of these items to Gear Con, along with a selection of our appropriately-hued Dream Stockings and Dreamer Socks at our discounted event prices.
Here’s to a Steamy weekend!!!
Sunday’s magic words are Mischief Managed!
Have you managed all the mischief you intended at the con this weekend? You’ve got one day left– but don’t forget to clear your map when you’re done, or it could fall into hands that are up to no good…
So hop on your brooms and scoot over to booth #211 ASAP for your chance to win! The amount on the gift card could be $5, or it could be $10, or it could even be $20– it’ll be a surprise! We also have a magical selection of our favorite styles to browse and buy, including the last few pairs of Sorcerer Socks and some extra-special event-only stickers. (We MIGHT have some left over after this weekend, but we won’t make any promises!)

What form will your patronus take? (Ours is probably a sock gremlin…)
