sock garters

We’ve carried Snappy Garters’ styles for a long time, beginning way back in 2004! We still carry these first styles, I love that they’re all along a spectrum, the Snappy Spike Garters all sharp and stabby, the Snappy Heart Garters hard but sweet and the Pom-Pom Garters so soft and fluffy.

Unlike the other sock garters we carry, that fasten with buttons or hooks, the Snappy Garters attach with two snaps to keep them secure around your leg, with a little extra stretch if you need it. Except for the below the knee designed Snappy Monkey Sock Garters, all styles fit legs 19-22 inches, which makes them great for below and above the knee.
Another old favourite (possibly premiering around Portland Pride 2007) are the Snappy D-Ring Garters! Originally plain black elastic with nickel rings, we’ve just introduced a fancier version with brass hardware, that even comes on a gorgeous maroon!
More Snappy Garter gorgeousness after the jump!
I know one of my favourites are the Snappy Big Button Garters. Oversize decorative buttons adorn them and they’re terribly whimsical, perfect for adding a little playfulness to any outfit and perfect for dolly dress up. They come in nine varieties, but here’s a taste of all the colour!
But what about days that you want the fun of Snappy Garters, but with simpler decoration? We’ve even got a couple of styles with printed elastic. First are the brilliant Snappy Rainbow Garters that wrap your legs in a joyful spectrum. We brought these in for Portland Pride 2012 and we love them! There are also the Snappy Monkey Sock Garters that have sweet little monkey silhouettes and are the little sister of all the other Snappy Garters, fitting 12 inches to 16 inches around. They’re designed for just below the knee, though smaller legs can wear them just above.

The newest styles (that we’ve just added today!) are equally understated. Simple metal charms on black elastic make the Snappy Dragonfly Garters and the Snappy Fleur de Lis Garters delicately beautiful addition to your accessories.
We love Snappy Garters and the past eight years of fun ways to rock keeping your socks up have flown by! Have you tried Snappy Garters? Were you rocking a pair back when we first started carrying them?
If you’re looking for ideas of what to get your father, dad, daddy, poppa, padre or father figure (or whatever you call the person who holds that place in your life) for Father’s day on June 19th, a good place to start is our Larger Foot collection. Not that all papas have big feet! If they have feet that fit the standard sock range of women’s US shoe size 6-10, men’s 4-8, then most of our socks will fit quite nicely. And, of course, a gift card fits everybody (and there’s always an email gift card
for last minute presents)!
A quick tip: on average, men’s US shoe sizes are the same as the women’s size, minus two. So if our Sizing Tips for a product say that a style fits women’s US shoe size 7 – 11, then they should fit men’s US shoe size 5-9. Most suppliers call their larger foot sizes “men’s”, which also tends to be midcalf. We’ve got these styles in a collection all their own.
Nothing is really more old-school masculine than our Men’s Sock Garters (called such because they’re styled after the traditional men’s sock garters, not because they’re just for guys). They also are available in stripes and extra-long. They add a fantastically polished look to any outfit.
The button and loop closure on these traditional garters work best with thinner dress socks, so if you plan on pairing them with styles with thicker cuffs, the tougher grip of the Suspender Clip Sock Garters is the way to go. Here are a couple of socks that do work well (and look great) with traditional sock garters:
• B Chevrons •
• Ozone Stripy Midcalves •
• B.Ella Teodoro •
Midcalves are commonly associated with father’s day socks, and if that’s your padre’s style, we have a ton of options. But there are other sock styles out there, even if you (or the person you’re buying for) are rocking men’s US shoe size 11s! Check them out after the jump!
We clearly love socks here, but some socks (and accessories!) we love more than others. “Dreamers Recommend” highlights the current favorite style of our Sock Dreamers.
Dreamer names: Jess & Rosalind
Current favourite style: Double Grip Clips (they both love these and rock them in different ways and have even made a gallery of Double Grip Clip uses on our Facebook!)
Did you like this item when we first started carrying it, or did you hate it and grow to love it?
Jess: I was intrigued by a garter style that had no waistband and no leg-pinching tightness, but wasn’t quite sure how to use them. I noted the product description’s caveat about “skirt lifters,” though, and tucked it away in the back of my mind until the day I wore a floor-length skirt to work. The skirt kept getting caught in the wheels of my chair all morning, until finally I broke down and bought two pairs of black clips from our warehouse stock to serve as skirt lifters out of sheer necessity. The effect was instantly AWESOME, both for convenience and style, and I’ve been using them on all of my longer skirts since then!
Rosalind: I was immediately intrigued by the open-ended nature of their design, but after I got a pair it took me a while to figure out the best way to use them.
What is the best thing about this particular style?
Jess: They’re so versatile! They add a visual lure to even the plainest of black skirts, and you can mix and match clip colors, adjust the length of the clips, or layer several lifts at once for volume. I especially love just lifting the front of my skirts (so I can show off my socks!) and letting them fall naturally in the back. I’ve also used these clips as regular garters to hold up my Super Long Ribbed Leg Warmers, and a single clip will stylishly hold a cardigan closed (thanks for the tip, Laurel!). They’re handy to have around!
Rosalind: They’re clever, and possibly a little bit sneaky. When worn with a short skirt or shorts, they peek out to lend that old fashioned garter belt look, but they’re much more simple, versatile, and hot weather friendly than a real garter belt.
How’s the fit?
Jess: These aren’t technically “fitted,” but the adjustable length is really useful. If I’m wearing a longer top, I’ll lengthen the clips’ elastic fully so they’ll still show; if I want a higher skirt lift, I shorten the clips up a couple inches. The elastic is stretchy enough to have a bit of give (so they won’t tear your skirts if they get caught on something), but won’t stretch out unnecessarily.
Rosalind: They don’t need to go around any part of you, so they can fit anyone. Their length is adjustable for different sock heights. Sometimes if I wear them with really tall socks they’re a little long, even at their shortest, but I just fold the sock over at the top to get the right height.
Who would you recommend this style for?
Jess: Everyone! They’re great for costumes (Victorian, steampunk, Ren Faire, etc.), but they’ve already become a staple to my everyday aesthetic, as the Dreamers can attest.
They’d be especially useful to anyone who’s looking to avoid the possible pinch of a garter belt, or someone who’d rather have their garter clips on the sides instead of the backs of their legs—you can clip these anywhere, so they’re a perfect starter-garter!
Rosalind: Anyone who is looking for a good anti-gravity wwwice for stockings, or whatever else you can think of holding up or together with them.
Anything else?
Jess: If you’re looking to add some texture, volume, and flair to your wardrobe, or if you want to show off your socks even in your longest skirt, pick up a pair or two of Double Grip Clips! You won’t regret it.
Rosalind: My favourite use of them is with pocketed skirts/shorts/dresses. That way you can clip them to the pocket underneath. Of course, if you have a very loose or stretchy waistband, you might want to try this out at home before you risk losing your pants in public. More secure waistbands, such as on jean skirts or shorts are best.

This is India, she is leaving us for Las Vegas later this week to be with the one she loves. The Simply adjustable Sock Garters shown on her in the previous post were her idea, we had a damaged pair of the traditionals in our unsellable returns box and her socks weren’t staying up. She not only solved her own problem but she solved one we’ve had for ages because our ability to get the buttoned garters has been sporadic at best and these are even simpler, no buttoning required (and you could still adorn them if you wanted). She will be greatly missed by all of us for her hard work, creativity and great taste in leg wear. The boots? I found those at a little boutique in Seattle called Diva Dollz, the brand is Miz Mooz, don’t know the model name though.
