After two months of just single Dreamer birthdays we’ve got a whole mess of folks born in July! Like their summer birthday month, the love they have for these styles burns bright!
Nina is our Customer Service Manager and the darkest ray of sunshine. If it’s black and sparkly, then she’s got a pair. When I asked her what her favourite style was, the first one on the list did not surprise me.
Some of my favorites include the Tabbisocks Party Night warmers because my hands are always cold, but it is imperative to always sparkle!
But she didn’t stop there!
I am a HUUUUUGE fan of the 100-inch Super Ruched socks made exclusively for us by Tabbisocks. A truly impressive sock that doesn’t get the love it deserves, IMO. They go on forever, soft and light, endlessly scrunchable, and a great conversation starter.
Tabbisocks Cat Tights because they are infinitely adorable . . . made even more so (if that’s even possible) with the DIY addition of google eyes and paired with my bestest kitty shoes.
Oh, my! I think it might have just occurred to me…I am in mad, mad love with Tabbisocks!
And we’re in mad, mad love with you, Nina!
Though she’s effusing over only one style, Sabrina (our savant of both the shop and Customer Service) says she picked the Dreamy Knees in Peacock to “spread my love for stripey Sock Dreams Dreamy/Color Knees. Stripey socks are my favorite! And Dreamy Knees/Color Knees are the best! I own about 7 different colorways, but I probably wear the Peacock Dreamy Knees the most because those are all my favorite colors. BEST. COLOR. PALETTE. EVER.”
With six types of Colour Knees, four Dessert Knees, three variations of rainbow, and all the delicious Dreamy Knees, Miz Sabz has the giantest heart of anybody to love all these stripes! Though she doesn’t limit her love, and lets other patterns get in on the mix.
But don’t think it’s all that colour that’s winning her over, ‘cause lady can wear a neutral as well.
Ryan is our Domestic Shipping Manager and a general all-around handy dude and wonderful human. He somehow manages to be a man of not many words who can still sling sass and enthusiasm with the best of them. Ryan chose the Dreamer Jacquard Flowering Vine OTK to represent his overall preference for our Dreamer Socks styles, the Extraordinary styles in particular.
First I need to give a solemn shout out to my favorite pair of socks for nostalgia’s sake. Those would be the O Yummies in Blueberry, my very 1st pair of Sock Dreams socks, that, alas, shared a similar fate with most of our discontinued lines, in that the yarn source dried up. My current favorites are the Extraordinaries, in any style/color. In my opinion these are the perfect year round sock. The coverage adds enough warmth for all but the coldest days and the weave gives enough breath-ability for all but the hottest days. Lastly, if you hate scrunchy, slouchy socks like me, then you’ll be pleased to know that these tend to stay where you put them on your legs.
Ryan is a joy to shoot and regularly rocks the heck out of taller socks paired perfectly with shorts. His love of our Dreamer Socks is only eclipsed by being a grade-A goof if you make him model toe socks.
And then there’s our fabulous Shop Shift Supervisor Rose! Girl can layer. And that’s her game, too:
SITM has always been my go to style of sock. I mainly wear a quirky novelty sock (or two) layered over bright (FT) tights or (NV) leggings. All year round. Every now and again I’ll go a little fancier with openwork tights, layered over solid tights and always with converse. Keepin’ it classy and a bit weird, layer by layer.
My go to colors are seafoam, teal, purple, black, and pink – often all at once.
So of course she layered two socks together because “Because dinosaurs in space“!
I can always rely on Rose for an ultimate pairing of socks and accessories, like the shirt and necklace combo with the Neon Suspenders or that she gave me three (!) under layering colour options when she modelled the Neon Rainbow Striped Fishnet Tights.
July birthday folks, you’re a joy! Keep cool temperature-wise, ‘cause I know you already got the “being awesome” part of cool down!
I planned to look at the colour blue for July because it’s one of our slower sock months (hmm, middle of summer, wonder why?) and I knew I’d have a bit more time to look at all these blues. It’s the colour associated with the most styles, just under black (which has over twice as many styles as blue, but that’s a tale for another month!). There are enough of ‘em that I’m ignoring navy for now, along with pastels, and just focusing on blue-blue.
As usual, I’m not trying to define blue. If you want some poem-like lists of names for shades of blue, Wikipedia and the Color Sorting Wiki are kind of amazing resources. I’ve done my best to accurately represent these hues in relation to each other, so you can gather a good idea of what matches and what doesn’t.
There are a lot of blue euphemisms (blue-phemisms), like “Steel”, “Denim”, “Royal” and ocean-y words. As you browse down through the brand lineups of blues I challenge you to guess what word is used to mean “blue” the most.
Dream Stockings & Dreamer Socks
Without pastels and navy, our house brands only rock a couple basic blues, but the Royal is unrepentant!
Lots of gorgeous blue variations here, B.Ella does blue luxe!
From left to right: Erin Wool & Silk Socks, Maniche Silk Tweed Boot Sock, Bastia Comfort Top Crew, Ginger Ribbed Knee Highs, Sergei Recycled Cotton No Show, Gregorio Wool Bootsocks, Zazu Honeycomb Footies
From the edge of teal to a rich royal (that is actually called Denim), they run a nice little gamut that stays sedate.
Lots of soft blues here, with quite the royal to cap it all off!
Another limited blue palette (which is always amazing, as Tabbisocks normally rules colour selection), but such pretty blues.
Lots of blues with a heavy dose of royal, because if you’re going to do just one blue, why not go all the way?
A look at how all these hues break down after the jump!
Happy Fourth of July! Fireworks, cookouts, lots of flags! It’s an important holiday folks tend to celebrate in a fun way. The most patriotic thing is to celebrate and support the States by buying things made in the USA.
Of course, all of our Dream Stockings and Dreamer Socks styles are made here in the USA and we have some pretty slammin’ reds and royal blues.
We only have a handful of American Flag socks, but the run the style gamut from the practically superhero-like Old Glory Printed Trouser Socks to the almost vintage-feel of the Old Glory Midcalves (which are, funnily enough, the only flag socks we have that are made in the USA).
Now, you know my weakness is colours and pairing colours. So let’s shuck the origins for a little bit and just splash around in the boldly beautiful combo of red, white and blue after the jump. Consider it a tiny sock fireworks show! Heck, we’ll throw in some fireworks too!
Mary is our Wholesale Accounts Specialist and she leads the Visual Merchandising & Interior Design, like in the shop and making our HQ a pretty place to be! Her skills are numerous and various and the socks she’s modelled ranges just as wide!
When I asked Mary to wear in her favourite pairs so I could get a snap, she brought me four, with coordinating shoes.
Mary’s fun selection, which includes the fabulous Lightweight Running No Show Toe Socks
Her personal faves are shorter, sportier socks and midcalf-to-knee high styles slouched down. Both the ECO Ginkgo Leaves Crew and the Diamond Rib Knee Highs fit the bill. Soft and oh so delightful when slouched, they’re great (particularly the Diamond Ribs) for dealing with the cold mornings and hot afternoons of June.
Born in Germany, she’s a go-to for quick translations (which is useful for getting all the info we can off of Cronert’s German-designed, Italian made styles).
A dedicated bike rider and marathon runner, Mary has quite the set of gams, which makes her fun to shoot in styles that emphasize shape.
Mary also is blessed (like me) with toes just at the end of most “one size” foot ranges (that US women’s shoe size 6-10 range). So, not only is she who we turn to when proving the veracity of a sizing label, but she also gets to wear the larger footed styles.
With feet that have as many talents as the rest of her, Mary is a blessed addition to our Dreamer family! And to all of you other June bug babies, happy birthday and happy start of summer!
Last year we looked at footies and openwork as a way to keep rocking socks as the weather grows warmer. But sometimes even less coverage isn’t enough for overwarm feet. With summer officially starting tomorrow, I thought I’d share some styles that are particularly kind to too toasty toes.
First, let’s be honest. We’re talking about foot sweat. There’s a lot of fancy ways to say it, like “moisture”, or there’s the emphasis on “keeping dry.” But sweat is sweat and we all drip it at our warmest moments. The plague of summer is foot sweat pooling in shoes and somehow making your feet clammy, yet still too warm. That is pretty gross, so let’s reset your brain with this snuggly picture of Ferous from our Instagram.
Back to the matter at hand. There’s only so much you can do to prevent your feet from sweating. Less sock is a part of that, and we know folks who go straight to sandals and no socks as soon as the weather heats up. But, not everyone gets to rock sandals (closed-toe shoe policies, personal taste, etc), so: folks who keep en-socked through summer, this is for you.
For all of the fabulous lightness of cotton, it transforms into a soggy sock when it gets wet and it takes its time to dry. But you combine cotton with a fiber like bamboo and you get a breezy sock that practically feels cool against the skin, lets your toes breathe and doesn’t get bogged down by “moisture.” The bamboo multi-pack styles from Foot Traffic are a great example of this. And! They’ve got lightly vented tops to maximize breathability.
Wicking. What exactly does that entail, when it comes to a sock? Well, that can mean a couple of things: they channel sweat off to where it can evaporate, they’re more absorbent and better at getting sweat off of you, they dry faster. A bonus is that a lot of them are super durable fibers that can take quite a beating and are less likely to aromatically convey just how hard a day your feet had.
Sounds fab, right? What if I said wool was one of the best fibers for just all that? It sounds madly counter-intuitive, but most technical (read: science-y) socks employ wool in styles you’ll be sweating up precisely because it’s a great fiber for wicking and insulation. Remember! You can insulate things to keep them warm AND to keep them cool. That’s the principle behind these four fabulous footies:
Another wicking wool blend shortie are the Wool Lightweight Running No Show Toe Socks. This style even has a ventilated top (that waffle-y pattern) to help manage the heat.
Toe socks in general can be a boon in warm weather. The idea of separately wrapping each toe in fabric when it’s warm is probably making you sweat just thinking about it, but that extra fabric goes a long way in dealing with excess moisture and helps prevent blisters and general discomfort caused by sweaty toes all rubbing up against each other.
If the concept of wool toe socks is too much, how about Coolmax®? A synthetic fiber designed to really amp up the whole wicking of sweat process (we go into a better explanation in this post), it’s a fabulous summer combo with toe socks.
The ultra best lightweight summer fiber is going to be silk, though. A particular favourite as a liner in the winter, the whisper-thin touch of silk in the summer is cooling to just think about. One of our Dreamers with particularly overwarm feet personally recommends silk toe sock styles as her ideal during warm months.
There are other styles that different kinds of feet love in hot weather as well (every foot is unique, after all), but these are our top favourites for really beating the heat. Of course, we always encourage folks to drop us a line with their measurements and needs, ‘cause nobody deserves the sweaty foot of summer!
