June’s actually got three birthstones associated with it, Alexandrite, Moonstone and Pearls. Both Alexandrite and Moonstone possess shifting colours that are impossible to capture in sock form, so I’ve made little gradients for you.

Alexandrite shifts from reddish to greenish.

Moonstones are pearlescent, glowing rainbows of green and blue, with purple and yellow on the edges. I actually super can’t convey the deepness of their colours and beauty, not even in socks.

If you’re feeling chic then the Star Stirrup Tights are just the thing for you.  Stretchy fishnet, with bold stars scattered across your legs.  Pair a blue skirt or red and white striped knee socks for a subtle shout-out to the flag.  And the open toes and heels are perfect for summer sandals!

On the other end of the spectrum are the beautifully basic Beer Knee Highs.  Super comfy, with cushiony feet and lots of stretch, they are now available in red, white and blue as an accompaniment to barbeques and cookouts on the Fourth.

Okay, let’s start with the barest minimum, the Gracel Foot Ring. Perfect for open-toed slides, it’s just enough sock to keep a shoe from rubbing uncomfortably.  And if you wear wider slides, then you can’t see the sock at all.

They also work pretty well with flip-flops, though they don’t protect that area between your toes. (also what do you call these shoes? Most people I went to school with called them slippers, but I went to school with a lot of native Hawai’ian folks). For better protection between the toes that’s still lightweight, the Silk Toes Half Sock or the Silk Ballerina Toes are perfect.

Now half socks we have a category for, though it’s not very populated right now. Some of our favourite barely-there sock styles have been discontinued, but we are always on the lookout for more. Luckily, two great basics, the Civo Mule Slide Socks and the Cotton Half Socks have stuck around. They’re perfect for closed-toe sandals, clogs and slides of all sorts.  The Cotton Half Socks come two pairs to the pack, one black and one white, both with fun dots at the toes.  The Civo Mule Slide Socks, pictured in the middle below, come in the same great range of shades as the Gracel Foot Ring.

Speaking of barely-there, the Extreme No-Show Liner is the minimum amount of sock that still covers your heel and toes. The skimmers and flats I’ve been seeing all over are perfect with these little socks. They still show a little over super-low cut shoes, but are covered up by most flats. What I love about the Extreme No-Show Liners is that they also come in packs of two pair, more bang for your buck!

Do you wear these kinds of socks with sandals? Are your feet tough enough to stand up to rubbing or do you need a little bit of sock to keep you comfy?

One summer style that is a big favourite with Dreamers and will always remind me of a box of crayons are the Dream Sneakers.  They hide under high tops and their ankle band of colour just pops over lower shoes. And they come in packs of two pair!

Now, sometimes you need more than little sneaker socks. Lightweight arm warmers and even an OTK after the jump!

We get asked what arm warmer styles are good lightweight summer styles pretty regularly.  Both the Vitamin Arm Warmers and the Chevron Sleeves are good, fuller coverage arm warmers that are still light enough to breathe.  If you’re sensitive to the sun, they’re a great choice.  The Ethereal Arm Warmers are the same long length and are even lighter, but they are also are semi-sheer, so they won’t give you as much protection.  Between all three is one of my favourite rainbows, swinging between summer neons and sunbleached pales:

Speaking of coverage, sometimes you may want a little more on your legs in the summer, either for the evening or personal style.  When it’s warm, it’s best to stick with open, lacy styles.  The open, cotton blend knit of the Crochet Lover Over the Knees is a perfect option. I love how their colours are dusty but vibrant, like wildflowers and summer grass.

Whew! That’s a lot of made in the USA!  But we’re dedicated to it. And, of course, we offer free first class shipping in the United States, you can’t get much more patriotic than that.

Shorter than true crews, but still tall enough to show over sneakers, anklets more often than not cover your ankle bone and sometimes have enough height to fold over.  They’re also called “quarter crews” and a lot of regular ol’ crew socks easily fit into the definition too, depending on how they fit.  A lot of our suppliers call them “shorties”.  Of course, when you think of warm weather socks, you think of cotton—

Footies come over the top of your foot, covering more than true no shows (though they are sometimes called no shows!) and less than anklets.  The line between anklet and footie is a flexible one, like most sock coverage defining categories.  They’re hidden by all but the most low-cut sneakers but flats will show off any fun designs on the top of the foot.  Here are some basics:

What about true no shows and other socky options for sandals?  As it keeps warming up (right now it is in the mid-sixties and drizzling outside, brrr!) we’ll keep showing off summer options.  What’s your favourite late spring/early summer sock?

Because I work in the warehouse at SDHQ, I’ve got to wear closed-toe shoes.  This keeps me from one of my favourite warm-weather ‘sock’ styles, stirrup leg warmers. Which! I know the idea of a leg warmer in August heat is intimidating, but hear me out—

Don’t tell anybody, but at heart I’m a barefoot gal.  My toes like freedom to wiggle and scuff at dirt.  But shoes are a must for running errands or going grocery shopping and I am so not going to put on shoes without socks.  Stirrup leg warmers like the Color Pop Stripes are the perfect compromise.  I can slip on sneakers without having that sweaty foot-to-shoe feeling, or hop in some flip-flops ‘cause my toes are still free.

The Color Pop Stripes are by the Japanese brand Tabbisocks, who make some of the silliest and most fun sock styles.  They’ve got two other cottony stirrup options that I’ve got my eye on, I just don’t know what colour to get!

The Marled Stirrup Leg Warmer comes in this colour we’re calling “Mint” for now, even though Niqkita pointed out it’s more like the underside of a mint leaf.  But it also comes in a soft blue and in a black that definitely appeals to my gothy side while still being all marled and summery:

And then there is the Cuffs & Stripes Shortie Leg Warmer.  I know they are totally kind of Flashdance, but that only makes them appeal to me more. It’s not a true stirrup, because the heel is covered (like the Crochet Lover Toeless Socks), but the soft terry scrunchableness of the cuff wins me over:
