What a wonderful day today was! As you know, I’ve been planning a Cat Birthday Party for weeks in honor of my sweet baby, Dale! I sent handmade invitations out to all of our closest friends and even made my very first fish cake.
Waking up with my kitty crew usually leads to hours of cuddling in bed, but I really tried to keep it short since we had so many things to do. Even though it was Dale’s special day, I tried to show all my angels equal amounts of affection. Soon after we enjoyed breakfast, that nice girl from across the street, Erin, came by to see the kitties. Their happy little meows were all the assurance I needed to know they were purrfectly pleased with her company! Erin was kind enough to join me on my daily walk around the neighborhood to look out for stray and lost cats, and she even helped me re-fasten weathered “Lost Cat” posters! Luckily, we did not find a single stray today because I’m not sure Dale would have been thrilled to share the spotlight at his party. Once we got back to my house, we groomed every cat so they’d each look their best. Harrison, especially, took quite the liking to Erin!
Once my babies were coiffed to perfection, I barely had time to dress myself. Plus, I always have the hardest time choosing what to wear. Sometimes it’s difficult to choose between what my cats like best and what looks best. Currently, most of my cat-themed tights & leggings are free of the signature snags and runs my kitties usually produce, but it was still so hard to pick a pair!
As our guests began to arrive, I couldn’t help but become a little perturbed that most of them came alone! Clearly, they didn’t realize that we had expected them to bring their cat companions. However, I’m sure it soon became obvious once everyone noticed all the cat party favors, the scratch-post circles, and the crinkle tube city. Admittedly, I was kind of disappointed, but I can’t deny that I was positively delighted to see all my guests wore their very cat-best!
While they might’ve been a little embarrassed they left their feline friends behind, I’m sure their little babies thoroughly loved the treat bags we sent home for them! Don’t think that I wasn’t grateful for everyone in attendance, dear Diary; I was tickled pink to have them along and I could tell my furry ones were, as well. Dale was an extraordinary host and the other babies seemed to be supportive of his special occasion. I think everyone had a great time, actually!
I hope I inspire some of my friends to throw their cats a party, someday; I would just love to go to a party of cats! My little kitties and I are taking a line-dancing class later this week and I’m feline like it’s gonna be fun!
Until next time,
– The Cat Lady
This weekend, September 21st and 22nd, Sock Dreams will be vending at Portland’s own Rose City Comic Con. Now in it’s second year, Rose City, or as it affectionately know as RCCC, will feature several amazing celebrity guests- Jewel Staite from Firefly, Avery Brooks from Deep Space Nine, Lee Arenberg and Martin Klebba from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies AND Mr. John “Bender” and “Jake the Dog” DiMaggio.
But of all the celebrity guests, comic artists and exhibitors, we are most excited about one guest in particular; the creator of the Sock Dreams logo, Echo X Chernik !
Niqkita was first made aware of Echo’s work through the Sock Dreams web designer Olivia, who knew Niqkita’s affinity for Alphonse Mucha and that she was looking for someone to design a logo for the fledgling company. Niqkita contacted Echo and they began emailing back and forth discussing what Niqkita had in mind for the logo and how it would fit into her business. Before she knew it, the logo lady was created.
The intention with the logo was always that her socks could be changed, but in the past couple years we’ve been radical about our changes, creating seasonal and event specific stickers and the word is, Echo loves it!
Come by our booth at RCCC, #720 to grab one of our Rose City Comic Con logo lady stickers, and then head to Echo’s booth #903 to get it signed.
We’ll also be giving away a pair of our con exclusive RCCC socks, made by Gumball Poodle, so if you’re at the Con this weekend check our Facebook page for more details.
See ya there!
We are a few days into a new month, complete with a new theme and a new newsletter due to be shipped soonly through the virtual tethers that connect us all… Have you signed up yet? They don’t go out often, mostly just once a month, and they’re filled with fun information, relevant facts and every so often we throw in a special discount code so you can get even more socks!
This year’s Valentine’s theme is slightly different from last year’s, as you can see from my signature below using last year’s version… and it will lead into a similar, yet different, theme later this month thanks to the designing magic of Olivia.
P.S. be sure to check out our Valentine’s collection, we didn’t go in for many novelty socks this year, just a sweet collection of our favorites plus some special edition Gumball Poodle LOVE socks for fun.
with the celebration of winter solstice ahead we are preparing to stay warm (and dry) and enjoying the change of seasons with a new theme… our beloved Solstice theme, lovingly remodeled by hand by Yummy Wakame to take advantage of the many new features we’ve added this past year including last week’s addition of multi-image capability. Some products will still only have one image, especially items we’ve carried for awhile because it will take time to fill them all in.
Back in the old days, when this was a simple hand made site using a simple program I could use any image, any size or shape, I wanted. But when we converted to a dynamic design consistency was required and we set the image size at a puny 200 x 300 px images to keep it lean. Last year we started adding larger images with zoom function and now we can also add multiple images, per color/size, plus we can also play with formats so horizontals and squares will start appearing in addition to our traditional “portrait” orientation. I’m even going back to throwing in some more artistic shots here and there.
Not only are we adding more images to our products on the site these days, we have been showing off our images, and images we like, in places like Pinterest, Chictopia and now Instagram… which, at this time, is just my snaps though our social media Dreamers will all still be keeping an eye in there for new favorite shots and catching comments and tags that I might miss in the flurry of socks that fly by in the average day at SDHQ.
…complete with a sweet, but not gaudy, theme for February and a collection of some of our favorite socks for sweethearts and dear friends alike.
If you don’t celebrate we don’t mind…
just look past the hearts and find your new socks stashed all over our site (don’t worry, there are clues everywhere to help you find them and we’re almost always around to give you hints).
If you do celebrate be quick about it, two weeks can fly by like a sock shot from a slingshot.
Wait, no, that won’t go far will it? well, regardless…
do not leave your sweetie with chilly toes, we won’t hear of it.
