Yes, I’ve mentioned sparkly styles for the new year before, but what better time to bring in the bling than on this side of winter Solstice, waiting for the days to get longer and knowing that there’s still a lot of winter to come. Also: sparkles!!
For more subtle sparkle, these three styles knit only a bit of shimmer in leaving most of the yarn unadorned.
But if you’re feeling a bit more bold, the overall shimmer-sparkle of these two styles should be perfect
And if you just can’t shine brightly enough then put on your shades for these three:
But what if you’d like to indulge a bit less ostentatiously? Well, the Indulgences category has all of our pricer (and worth it!) options that you totally deserve after surviving the year. From knee highs in cashmere or silk,

Ah December! We’ve reached the end of the year and our last month of birth month symbol-inspired socks! Holly and poinsettia are inevitable flowers for this month, but turquoise is a surprise as the birthstone! And Sagittarius’ arrows point straight to the end of the year!
The distinctive pretty prickliness of holly only really shows up in seasonal socks. This year we have the lovely Cardinals Crew, with bright little birds perched on holly leaves.
Did you know that the poinsettia “flower” is actually a cluster of specialised leaves? And besides the traditional red, they can be orange, pale green, cream, pink, white or marbled! They need to be kept in the dark for a while for the colour change to happen, then need lots of light to get as bright as can be! The Starry Poinsettia Over the Knees are an obvious sock choice,
But the Juneau Fairisle Crews have that same distinctive “flower” worked into their design. Subtle!
Now, turquoise is an easy one! We even have a built-in “Browse by Color” search for it! Well, turquoise and teal. Because actual turquoise stones vary from super pale to vivid and blue to blue-greens, as a colour name it runs the gamut!
Now, what best represents the arrows of Sagittarius (since we only have horses, no centaur archers)? Why, chevrons! The stacked “V” design of a chevron is like a flying arrow, or the feathers (fletching) that balance it!
Of course, our DreaM Stockings have a lovely line of chevron styles:
And there are plenty of others to aim at!
See, December birthdays, even with all the holiday rush going on, we couldn’t forget you!
It’s cold outside, and a lot of us Dreamers have given up our razors for the winter (those of us who use them, anyway). Conveniently, this month is also the start of No-Shave-November “Noshember”, a fun challenge of setting down that razor and seeing what happens. Noshember is about folks “[uniting] in the height of laziness agreeing to not shave their beards or legs.”
And it’s not just about making things easier during one of the busiest times of year! The various No-Shave-November groups are also involved with charities, which is a great incentive for getting past those first painfully stubbly days.
If you’re focusing on the face and want to coordinate your socks with your new look (or if you can’t grow good face hair but want to have ‘stache solidarity), then we have some marvellous moustache options for you!
And larger feet can fit into the Mustache Tights too! Our be-stached knee high options (with and without argyle) only fit up to a US women’s shoe size 11 and men’s size 9, though (but they’re pretty perfect for smaller feet, perfectly fitting down to a US women’s size 6!).
Okay top halves covered, but what about options that won’t clash with incoming leg hair? Socks, especially our thick and cozy house brands, pretty much always do a great job covering leg hair, but what about if you want something dressier or nylon?
Our Opaque section offers styles in varying levels of opacity that all do a pretty solid job of hiding leg hair (though, from experience, any lighter colour over darker leg hair will never be perfect!). Bonus: most opaque styles are going to be warmer, which is perfect for all that incoming winter weather!
Probably everyone’s favourite legginga (and remember one of the differences between Leggings and Footless Tights is opacity) are the Thermo Fleece Lined Footless Tight (so cozy!), the Black Velvet Legging (so fancy!) and Nouvella’s Cotton Legging or Capri (the best basic!).
But what about tights—and something fancier, or more office-y? In solids, both the Color Tights and Opaque Tights are awesome and come in a million colours and the Erika Microfiber Tights are magic, because they’re the only microfiber cotton we’ve encountered. Seriously, they are the best.
And don’t think you’re stuck without stockings if you don’t want to shave, because there are plenty of thigh high options! The Lycra Cuban Heeled Two-Tone Stockings are a wonderful winter option to the traditional sheer Cuban heel, and the Solid Thigh High Stockings are just a great basic all around.
So do you stop shaving this time of year, for a cause or for yourself?
I know a lot of folks born in February. In fact, I think three (!) Dreamers have had birthdays already this month. February’s symbols aren’t hearts, cupids and lace though, they’re the very stately and fabulous Amethyst, Viola and Aquarius.
Amethyst is a super fascinating stone, used for protection in battle, as a ward against drunkenness and for intaglio carving, its soft purple hue lends a calm beauty to goblets, amulets and jewellery. Found in a range of purple (one of the definitions of Amethyst is “purple” qualified by “any purple”), some of amethyst’s more common shades are rose, mauve and lavender.
The most valuable amethyst, however, is deep purple, with tinges of violet. I think what we and our suppliers tend to call “plum” is a good match.
Because people have always loved to coordinate, violets (more properly, “violas”) are February’s flower. Tiny and purple with a distinctive five-petal shape; their larger, hybrid form is called a “pansy.”
February’s dominant constellation is Aquarius, the water bearer. Symbolised by layered waves, it’s also part of a song title I bet you’re trying not to get stuck in your head. I think Nouvella’s Space Ocean colourway is kind of a perfect match—and the wee baby sock version way more fun (and cozy!) for little folks born this month than rocks and flowers.
So far February hasn’t tricked me with a sneaky nice day that pretends spring is around the corner, but we’re only about at the halfway mark of this short little month. There is plenty of time for one surprisingly warm day to make me think I don’t have to work so hard to stay cozy.
